I know it’s been a really long time since I posted.  In fact, I had an “update” kind of post all thought out about three weeks ago, and it never happened.  I’m not sure if they’re really watching this kind of thing here at work, but, if so, I’m trying to be sneaky.  :)   A little insolence never hurt anyone, did it?

However, I am a little busy here in the Cube’O'Doom, so I think I’ll give you the Twitter version of an update.  All items will be 140 characters or less.  Be prepared for some randomosity.

  • The White Sox sucked it up.  I can hardly take the annoyance and threaten, once again, to give up on them and cheer for someone else.
  • Damn it, I want the Angels to win.
  • I renewed my affair with the Saints, Packers, and Tom Brady.  Only Saints have returned the love. Tom tried to make it up to me last game.
  • Went to St. Maarten for a week’s vacation.  Loved, loved, loved it!
  • Went to Kansas City to see the Cowgirls almost get ridden roughshod by the Chiefs.  Too bad the red team lost.
  • Did I mention it was colder than phuck in KC for the game?  Still I love outdoor football.
  • Is scalping tickets legal in St. Louis? I want to go see the Rams try and win one in November and don’t want to go to jail or pay much.
  • Increasingly annoyed with friend SR: she can’t commit to doing things with us, but she’ll commit to 1000 for people she regularly bashes.
  • Got an awesome visit from friend SD and had a great girls’ weekend.
  • Also in love with new Camaro. Too bad I won’t be able to afford one.
  • Only intermittently busy at work, but spent a lot of vacation time with no consequence (no late work).
  • Confirmed S&M tendencies by going back to personal trainers after vacation.  Working out hurts and I love it!
  • Adopted another soldier through Soldier’s Angels.  Got SD to adopt one!  You should do it too, ‘cuz all the cool kids are doing it.

That’s enough for now.  Here’s the Hot Guy for ya – you might have seen this one coming:

Sounds like the White Sox to me.  I am happy that Contreras went away.  Really, I am.  I am not so happy that Thome got traded to the Dodgers.  I guess it doesn’t matter who he got traded to, unless it was the Twins or something.  I’m just annoyed about it.  No surprise there…at least we’re not the Mets or the Cubs. <-the only way I keep myself sane about my team

I heard a little snippet of a rumor that we’re not supposed to be blogging at work, so I’m going to keep this short.  I guess short posts are still posts, but I can at least work it into a 15-minute break if I’ve got it all together.  That’s the plan at least.

I watched part of the Vikings/Texans preseason game, and, amazingly, seeing Brett Favre in the hideousness of purple didn’t make my stomach turn.  I just rolled my eyes and chuckled when they brought up that he (maybe) has a cracked rib.  There’s something to be said about hanging it up before it hangs you.  I guess that means I’m closer to being over the whole issue.  Week 8 might change my mind, but that’s for another time.

Here’s the random weirdness of the day:  my Yahoo! mail account has sidebar ads, just like every other webpage, and today’s pretty much freaked me the fuck out.

WTF

Okay, so this is an ad for Garanimals clothing, that, of course, they sell at Wacko-Mart.  In the actual ad, and not the screen shot I got here, the freakish monkey thing is animated and is giving that sleazy “heeeyyy” kind of pick up move to a little boy.  It’s almost like something out of a bad SNL skit, but worse than GoatBoy gone terribly, terribly wrong.

To make it right, here’s a good photo for you: Hot Guy Pic!

I sort of got myself into a little trouble yesterday in a meeting.  In a rare moment of complete idiocy, I told the chief (not my boss, but her boss) to move on with a topic.  Yeah, certainly  not the smartest thing I’ve ever done.  It was more borne out of utter frustration than anything:  the dude goes over how we’re all behind in our work in nine different ways, all the time clogging up my schedule so I can’t go get my work done.  I apologized for the disruption afterward, and I got a scolding, but I think things are okay now.  They let me come into work and log into the computer system, so I don’t guess I’m being escorted out.

Onto more of a happy place, where my ChiSox defeated the Halos last night with a walk-off single by Scotty Po-po.  Can we please get rid of Contreras?  Pretty please?  Erratic is a nice way to describe the guy, really.  Fortunately for him and the Sox, Carrasco was in decent form, and the bats were able to come out for run support.  Sheesh.  Tonight Gavin Floyd starts the show…here’s hoping for another win at the Cell.

I wonder how difficult it is for a baseball player – or any athlete, for that matter – to sit out the vast majority of a game only to be called on once (to pinch hit) to perform?  I know that most would say that they’re always ready, always prepared, but I know that time away from actual play can make a guy rusty.  So what’s a (mega-hot) guy to do when all he’s used for is a pinch-hitter?  Yeah, the truth apparently is that he usually sucks it up royally, grounding out in the 7th every freaking time, and then popping out when he actually gets to be a position player for one random game.  Damn it, Matt.

Gotta wrap this up.  After my outburst yesterday, I’m trying to appear as studious as possible.  Hot Guy Pic?  Yes!

There will be no sweeping, damn it.  I’ll still take 3 of 4 from the Spankees ANY TIME.  Who said Melky could hit for the cycle in our park anyway?  Hmph.

Additional good news is an additional pitcher who has some skills:  ladies & germs, put your hands together for Mr. Jake Peavy!  Yeah, you know, the one who used his no-trade clause in May to stay in SD because, well, they weren’t sucking and the ChiSox kinda were?  Yeah, that’s the guy.  He’s still on the DL with an ankle tendon injury, but we’ll rehab him up right.  The Sox lost Clayton Richard in the trade (and I love him almost solely because he’s a Michigan man), so that sucks, but I knew no one would take Colon.  Hell, we don’t even really want him, but we still have him hanging around somewhere.  Waivers?  Yes!  Let’s put him out unconditionally on waivers!  We’re already scrambling to cover starts with Richard gone and Peavy on the DL, why not?

White Sox goodness combined with Twins and Tigers suckitude pulled us within 1.5 games of the division lead, and 1.5 games ahead of the Twinkies.  It also keeps us above the .500 mark, although just barely.  The upcoming series at home against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will be an interesting one, since the Angels have twice owned the Twins in series recently.  It would be nice to keep above .500, wouldn’t it?

So, in other baseball goodness, Super Hottie Matt Kata is still playing big leaguer with the Astros.  I’m hoping he hangs in there until the roster expansion and then gets to play a bit into the post-season.  He does play for the Astros, so I’m not holding my breath on that post-season bit.  But, there’s always hope, right?

I am pretty sure that the month of July just didn’t happen because it’s already August.  NFL preseason games start in 10 days.  Speaking of that, I really need to get cracking on those KC/Dallas game tickets.  Otherwise, that will be an uneventful anniversary weekend in Kansas City for us…and kind of a wasted trip.

As always, work calls.  In anticipation of the upcoming wonder that is football season, here’s your Hot Guy Pic:

The All-Star break.  It is upon us in both the Major League and in AAA baseball.  This means basically no sports at this particular time.  Oh, sure, there’s probably golf or something, but nothing I really want to watch.

I suppose I can’t complain too loudly…I want a week (or two) off every year, so probably most people do, including professional baseball players not chosen to participate in the All-Star events.

Let’s see:  Hottie Joe Mauer was eliminated in the first round of the Home Run Derby last night.  Prince Fielder won.  I wonder how much of his power is associated with the interia from  swinging that belly around?  I’m not sayin’, I’m just sayin’.

The White Sox slid into the week-long snoozefest with a loss to the Twinkerbells…this leaves us at 3 1/2 games back and those Twinkies a mere 4 games back from the Tiggers.  At this point, I’m happy that we’re above .500, even if it’s just barely.

The dancing days are over in Houston and in the Cube’o'Doom.  Matt Kata, with his wretched batting average has been sent down to Round Rock as the Astros claim C/UTIL Chris Coste off of waivers.  I’m terribly sorry, and as much as I love-love-love Matt, batting a .182 isn’t going to take you places, regardless of those relatively clutch hits making up the .182.  It’s probably bittersweet for him: his family (wife and twin baby boys) are in Round Rock, but there’s nothing like that big league play time.  Not that I wish harm on anyone, but maybe someone will have an injury (at the All-Star festivities??) and they’ll call my man Matt back up so he can try to improve.

I had a great weekend, even though I was completely drenched for most of Saturday.  I went to a handgun shooting class and it opened up and poured on us!  The instructors were watching the weather (sorta) and kept saying that it was going to lighten up, but it never did.  There is very little worse than wet jeans, but the acrid smell of the gunpowder and the full-on bulls-eye I hit with my first shot might have made it all worthwhile.  Now it’s time to move past the 100-level class…perhaps the sun will shine on the 200. :)

Back to work, but for you and I to enjoy – my favorite All-Star:

I couldn’t decide if I wanted to do a whole bunch of posts since I have a few subjects to go over or if I just wanted to cram it all into one.  I determined that this may keep me from rambling too much.  Maybe.

I am going to “adopt” a soldier to send stuff to.  I have a total soft spot for military personnel, and have been mulling this over in my head for a while.  I am still a little nervous.  What if “my” soldier finds my letters really freaking annoying?  Will the care packages make up for it?  I guess, overall, it doesn’t matter.  He or she doesn’t have to write back.  But, I could be lucky and get someone who appreciates my obnoxious sense of humor…here’s hoping.

Next subject:  I should probably move before I go insane.  The State of Indiana passed a budget yesterday.  It only took 9,273 days to do it.  Kidding – it only felt like that long.  The worst part is that the state budget includes a component to bail out the worst government department ever - the fucking CIB.  That’s the Capital Improvement Board for the City of Indianapolis, and this little group is responsible for the operation/maintenance(!)/whatever of two of the city’s four sports venues – Conseco Fieldhouse and the blasted behemoth that is Lucas Oil Stadium.  Why does the CIB need a bailout you ask?  It’s because they’re a group of idiots that a) don’t know shit about how much it costs to build and/or operate anything and b)like to kneel at the throne of Irsay.  Truly, it is an extension of the overwhelming dislike I have for the Colts and their ownership, but it has it’s own twist.  I’m now paying for it in multiple ways.  It’s not enough to bump up the sales tax and food/beverage tax and tourism taxes (hotels and rental cars), no, now I have to pay for it out of my State income taxes.  MOTHERFUCKERS.

Moving on before I blow a gasket somewhere:  The White Sox have now won 4 in a row, defeating Cliff Lee and his Indians last night in a weather-shortened game.  Yeah, bishes, 11-4 brings us above the .500 mark.  That would be nice to hang onto.  I do have to say that Michigan alumni Clayton Richard didn’t do half bad last night in his start.  I’ll not complain about it, at least.  We’re set to rumble again tonight – let’s go for the sweep!

The DH and I went to the Indianapolis Indians’ game last night and had a good time.  We had great seats on the third base line (my preference), and watched a crazy one.  Indians’ infielder Chris Barnwell now has a new nickname – Barney – from us for his, um, antics last night.  I still think Mike Koplove has a weird approach and he earned the loss, gaining two strikes from this fan.  Sorta-hottie Garrett Jones and his big bat have been called up to PGH, and Jeff Salazar got the same deal.  Once again, we’re trying to groom the kiddies for an upward move…at least we’re not in last place this year.

Super Hottie Matt Kata is still surviving on the Astros’ roster, occasionally making big enough plays to stay alive in the Majors.  That’s good enough for me; they keep video highlights involving his hotness coming on the Astros’ website.  At last night’s Indians’ game, there was an announcement about a Fantasy Night at Victory Field…the DH says “nope, that was last year for my wife.  One season too late.”  He’s a good man for taking my drooling in stride.

In closing: Welcome back to the bigs, Rich!

Apparently, lots and lots and lots of folks are into one certain NFL WR that I had posted about in my List Love posting: Brandon London.  Yes, he’s a hottie.  Sho’ nuff.  But what the heck with the go-zillion hits I got off of him the other day?  I tried to see if there was some news regarding him, and all I could find was an older reference to a BET special that he was modeling on.  Not that I mind – maybe more folks will hang around and laugh with me at the absurdities of life and enjoy the hotness of athletes – but how random!  For you all, he’s your Hot Guy Pic of the Day…check it below.

Before we get to that, let’s talk about some sports goodness.  Yesterday I didn’t have much time, so I neglected to laugh evilly over the ChiSox’s taking of the Crosstown from the Northside Pity.  As Meatloaf says, two out of three ain’t bad.  The DH had to suffer with me all weekend over it.  The 6-0 shutout was the frosting on such a delicious cake. ;)   Poor guy.  He doesn’t totally deserve all the abuse.  Not totally.

My White Sox also defeated the bottom-dwelling Indians last night 6-3, but face the possible happy-vibe killah that is Cliff Lee tonight.  No worries, kids, we’re still something like 5 games back from the division-leading Tigers.  This is something the DH doesn’t let me forget.

I have never really considered going to a draft.  That is, until I read about how much fun Wraps had in Montreal at the NHL draft…now, I’m damn jealous and want to go.  Maybe it’s just that I need to get out of central Indiana, but this sure seemed like a freaking blast.

Now, because work is kinda slow, I’m going to go research some more law schools and count down until the Indianapolis Indians game tonight…

As promised, Brandon London:

I may have mentioned it before, and I’ll be surely saying it again, but my husband is the awesome-est.  He calls me this morning from his office to see if I would be interested in trading going to one NFL game this year (furthering The Quest) for going to the Big House for a game and to see all the renovations they’ve made.  It’s been a few years since we’vegone to a Michigan game, so I’m cool with it.  We’ll be playing the Eastern Emus – yes, I know they’re supposedly the Eagles, but if they aren’t the Hurons anymore, they’re the freaking EMUS to me – so I’ll anticipate a fun and full game.  I can almost taste the Dominos pepperoni pizza now…

We are still looking for some (relatively cheap) tickets to the Chiefs-Cowboys game in October, so if you know of any, let me know.  I’ve been checking Craigslist and eBay, but tickets don’t actually come out until next month, so there’s not a LOT of activity.  This is simply to go see a game at Arrowhead as part of The Quest, so I’m not too concerned about seat location.  Unfortunately, the KC fans still love their team and everyone wants to see Dallas play (for whatever reason), so it’s been hard snagging those on a good deal.

In baseball stuffs, the ChiSox lost the series opener against the (thankfully) Manny-free Dodgers.  The Oz-Man got ejected in the 8th for arguing pitch calls and called the ump out on his “weak” ejection:

“That’s the weakest ejection I’ve ever had,” Guillen said. “I asked where the pitch was, he didn’t like my question and he kicked me out of the game. He big-leagued me. I’m not going to say much because it might cost me one day without pay and one day without my ballclub.”

I love that guy.

Gotta get back to that thing called “work”, so here’s your Hot Guy Pic:

First, let me just say that I did not watch Game 7.  I am glad that I didn’t.  In fact, I haven’t even read a recap of it for it would make me far too sad.  That said, congratulations to the Pittsburgh Penguins.  In the words (and accent!) of Sean Connery,  you were a most worthy adversary…and it was probably well-deserved.  But I refuse to go find out.  Hell, I’m not even going to find out who won the Conn Smythe – yes I am, wait…well, at least it’s not Sidney.

In good news, the Chicago White Sox have won the last two of their series with the Brewers.  The Milwaukee boys have been good on the DL lately, so it’s nice to take a few games here and there.  And, while he’s not attractive to me whatsoever, I love A.J. Pierzynski.  His attitude problem and my attitude problem are similar…maybe we’re related.  Cooler yet, Mark Buehrle smacked his first professional HR.  BUT (there’s always one of those), the ChiSox are 4.5 games back from the Tiggers, and 1.5 games behind the Twinkerbells…it’s the middle of June.  Shouldn’t we be playing some good ball (consistently) by now?

The Indianapolis Indians are 3.0 games behind the Louisville Bats, but are getting closer to that elusive .500 mark.  If they get to that threshold, it will be the first time they’ve had a winning season since I’ve been following them.  What an accomplishment! :)

Super Hottie Matt Kata is still on the active roster for the Astros, making this Angel quite happy for him.  He seems to be getting into the groove, finally climbing out of the batting average cellar and, of course, doing a fine job at defense.  I told my crazy friend that we’re going to CIN if he’s still playing with the Astros.  As the saying on the Ladies… goes, it’s not stalking if you bought a ticket!

In non-sports things, I had a great weekend with some friends.  I was on the lookout for a replacement for El Quattro…there was one who was close, but, alas, it was not to be.  The DH and I have a long weekend with other friends coming up, and I am only partially looking forward to the trip.  It will be nice to get away, but this trip is with 6 other adults and their 6 children.  In one house.  And it looks like it might rain all day Sunday.  I’ll try to stay positive though: we’re bringing lots of alcohol, and I love all the guys – just not necessarily their wives.

And now, I should go do work.  Or take my lunch.  Work is totally overrated today anyway.

I’ve only seen Scrubs a few times, and I was alwaysstruck with how much alike Zach Braff’scharacter and I are alike.  I tend to assign music and funny situations to otherwise routine days.  Today, I was thinking that everyone should be able to have a soundtrack to their lives.  What an awesome accessory – you go walking onto a room full of people, and depending on your mood and the situation, the appropriate song is playing.  Now, some folks do this with their iPods cranked to unbelievable volumes anyway (the guy at the gym the other day was listening to some seriously angry metal and it could be heard clearly from two benches away.  Yikes!), but I’m talking about the mysterious narrator and overhead/background music…

Anyway, enough about that.  The Red Wings defeated the very desperate Blackhawksin OT last night.  This, of course, means that they will be facing the Penguins in the Stanley Cup Finals.  This worries me a little.  I’m pretty sure (as stated yesterday) that the Pens are out for revenge on both the Wings and Marion Hossa.

On the subject of the Wings, I read a comment on a blog (I don’t remember which one – I read a lot of them) saying that the Wings are the Yankees of hockey.  I guess I can see that to be true on some levels.

  • Both organizations attract big names.  I don’t know if the Wings (read: the Ilitchs) are forking out Yankee-sized dough for their stars…I don’t keep up with that part of it.
  • Both organizations have been big winners of the course of their existence.  The Wings are just a bit more current on the winning bit than the Yanks.
  • Both have fans everywhere.  Funny thing to me is that Wings fans don’t seem to be as big of assholes as Yankees fans.  It also seem that the Wings themselves aren’t as big of assholes as the Yankees.  Do the Yankees’ fans have a cool name like the Wing Nuts do? :)

Let’s see:   The White Sox couldn’t finish off the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for the sweep.  DeWayneWise is working on a rehab assignment in Charlotte.  I don’t know if his return would be good or not.  Hell, who knows with this team right now?  This is about the normal roller-coaster ride with my ChiSox, but it’s getting somewhat nauseating.

Tomorrow’s my 31st birthday.  I feel no different from my 29th or 30th, so it’s no biggie.  I wonder when that “oh my gawd, i am so old” feeling is going to hit?  I had no issues with turning 30.  Now I’ll officially be “in my 30s”, and I still am not having that freak-out that some people feel I should.  Maybe it’s because I still act like I’m 25?
