Blown out of the water March 31, 2009

Let me just say…this year’s March Madness is and was just that – madness. Who would have thought that Sparty would have knocked off a cocky L’ville? And, while I had Villanova pulling out one upset, I did not see them beating Pitt. Truth be told, I didn’t see anyone beating Pitt. Oh well. That bracket has already been introduced to the recycle bin after being blown out of the water this weekend.

It is my goal today to think positively. I think that I really enjoy pissing and moaning about stuff a bit too much, so that’s all I do. Okay, not all, but I do it a lot. In the spirit of that realization (an epiphany? not so much), I will strive to be positive today!
I started this morning getting out of bed late. Positively thinking, of course, I got that few extra minutes of much-desired sleep. It was lovely. I also spent a few extra minutes in the shower this morning, and it was refreshing. Traffic, while mostly incorporated of the usual suspects, was not too heavy and I was only five minutes late to my desk. I’d like to thank all of the folks who have taken today off to go to the NCAA games in town or to start Spring Break a little early. You made it a hell of a lot easier to get into work this morning.
I checked my bracket after last night’s round. I’m out in the Midwest and have been since the second round, so no news there. The West played and I am 50% in this round, with Mizzou knocking out Memphis. My East bracket is still going well – I have both teams right (that’s right, I called the ‘nova game right, bitches!). The South plays this weekend, and I have UNC and Syracuse heading on the the Elite 8. We’ll see on Monday how I did. Here’s my Final Four predictions:
Midwest – Wake Forest I’m already out here. Damn it.
West – UConn
East – Pitt
South – Syracuse
I see UConn and Pitt in the Championship game with Pitt coming out on top. Here’s to being positive!
Feeling quite accomplished at work, I have completed stages of three projects in the past two days. Today, I am positive that I will try to continue that path, with only a half day used on ogling hot athletes. For a good one today, go check out the Ladies…
Also on the accomplishment trail, the DH and I finished up with our second 8-week circuit in the gym. We go tonight to learn our new one. It’s getting (slowly) to the point where we can see differences. Not so much in ourselves, but we can see them in each other. The other telling factors: I don’t feel winded going up two flights of stairs here at work, and I had to go down a size when buying shirts last weekend. It’s a nice feeling.
Feeling positive and good about myself improves my outlook on others…well, mostly it just makes me more confident whilst ogling guys. So, let’s hop to that for the close, shall we? My current top five in pics:

So The Spirit sorta flopped. Gabe's still hot.

There’s no other way to explain the things this morning. It’s just a Monday. I’m not really griping – it just seems like stuff didn’t fall well together this morning, so someone (or something) must be blamed.
- After a long and busy weekend, we made it back home late last night. This means no grocery shopping, so it was up to leftovers for lunch today. Well, I promptly left mine at home this morning on the ay out the door, so I guess I’ll be going out for lunch today. Perhaps that was a little subconscious – I wasn’t looking forward to the leftovers anyway.
- I run late to work, not terribly late, but 10 minutes late. I’ll just make it up this afternoon. No big deal.
- I had an eye doctor appointment on Friday. No big deal there, either, except I needed to get new lenses. “No problem,” I say, knowing that I have a spare pair at home that are close enough to get me through the week. Yep. Left those at home too. So, I have no glasses to read with today, so I’ll be expecting that eyestrain headache sometime around noon.
- I was sort of excited to check my bracket this morning…I knew that tO$U has lost to Siena, so I was cool for checking out how I did. UNTIL I SEE THAT WAKE FOREST BLEW IT AGAINST FREAKING CLEVELAND STATE (who also beat Butler in Horizon League Championship, btw) AND FUCKED IT ALL UP FOR ME!! Okay, so it’s not that bad nor is it that big of a deal (I don’t put money on these things for a reason), but come on! Here’s my bracket stats so far:
- Midwest – 5 of 8 for the first round winners; 2 of 4 for the second round. The losses of Wake and WVU knock me out in the Midwest from here on out.
- West – 8 of 8 (woo!) for first round winners; 2 of 4 for second round. I’m not out of this one yet.
- East – Rockin’ the casbah with 6 of 8 in the first round and 3 of 4 in the second. WTF with Xavier??
- South – 5 of 8 for first rounders; 4 of freakin’ 4 for second rounders. Not too bad here either. It is too bad that both Butler and Michigan are out, but I predicted those by this point.
I have a pile of work on my desk that has just gotten bigger, so I should get to that. To tide you (and me) over and to bring a smile to your face, here’s a hot piece of luscious man candy:

I’m so unoriginal March 16, 2009

There are times when I’d like to think I’m creative and a whiz with words. This is not one of those times.
The weekend went well. I think I was still recovering from the flu because I got so tired while working out on Saturday morning I had to quit early. I made it through the free-weight circuit, but couldn’t drag myself to work on my abs or do cardio afterwards. I have to try and make sure to get on that with today’s workout. No more wussing out!
Unoriginal is probably a good way to describe my college basketball picks on the bracket this year too. I made my choices, not so much based on research and the like, but more on gut feeling and what I’ve heard throughout the season in little bits and pieces. I’m not counting on it for money, so it’s okay by me. Here’s the list of my First Round winners:
Midwest
- Lousiville
- Siena
- Arizona
- Wake Forest
- WVU
- Kansas
- BC
- MSU
West
- UConn
- Texas A&M
- Purdue
- Washington
- Marquette
- Missouri
- Maryland
- Memphis
East
- Pitt
- Tennessee
- FSU
- Xavier
- UCLA
- ‘Nova
- TX
- Duke
South
- UNC
- Butler
- Illinois
- Gonzaga
- Temple
- Syracuse
- Michigan
- OK
Since tourney time is upon us, the days of trying to work without having all the scores up are quite over. Well, starting on Thursday, and I have Friday off. That’s a good thing about football – it’s always on at night and usually it’s on the weekend. Baseball is on during the week and during the day, but it’s easy to check on a game a few times here and there without feeling like you’re missing out. Not so much with basketball.
Hockey update – the Red Wings defeated Rick Nash and the Columbus Blue Jackets to secure a spot in the postseason. There’s also something about them making a record, but I forget where I heard that and what it actually is. Update: from their own website, the record is nine consecutive seasons with 100 points.
I should get back to work, so I’ve got a goodie for you:

Okay, there are lots of super cute college bball boys, but I feel way less dirty looking at someone close to my own age - Coach Brad Stevens for Butler. (AP Photo)
