I know it’s been a really long time since I posted. In fact, I had an “update” kind of post all thought out about three weeks ago, and it never happened. I’m not sure if they’re really watching this kind of thing here at work, but, if so, I’m trying to be sneaky.
A little insolence never hurt anyone, did it?
However, I am a little busy here in the Cube’O'Doom, so I think I’ll give you the Twitter version of an update. All items will be 140 characters or less. Be prepared for some randomosity.
- The White Sox sucked it up. I can hardly take the annoyance and threaten, once again, to give up on them and cheer for someone else.
- Damn it, I want the Angels to win.
- I renewed my affair with the Saints, Packers, and Tom Brady. Only Saints have returned the love. Tom tried to make it up to me last game.
- Went to St. Maarten for a week’s vacation. Loved, loved, loved it!
- Went to Kansas City to see the Cowgirls almost get ridden roughshod by the Chiefs. Too bad the red team lost.
- Did I mention it was colder than phuck in KC for the game? Still I love outdoor football.
- Is scalping tickets legal in St. Louis? I want to go see the Rams try and win one in November and don’t want to go to jail or pay much.
- Increasingly annoyed with friend SR: she can’t commit to doing things with us, but she’ll commit to 1000 for people she regularly bashes.
- Got an awesome visit from friend SD and had a great girls’ weekend.
- Also in love with new Camaro. Too bad I won’t be able to afford one.
- Only intermittently busy at work, but spent a lot of vacation time with no consequence (no late work).
- Confirmed S&M tendencies by going back to personal trainers after vacation. Working out hurts and I love it!
- Adopted another soldier through Soldier’s Angels. Got SD to adopt one! You should do it too, ‘cuz all the cool kids are doing it.
That’s enough for now. Here’s the Hot Guy for ya – you might have seen this one coming:

First thing: I have a little bit of a problem with all this morality business when it comes to Michael Vick. Do NOT misunderstand me: I love dogs, and what the guy did was despicable. However, he’s served his time, is pretty much broke, and is, in all honesty, a pretty good athlete. On the other hand is Donté Stallworth: the dude ran over a guy after having a few too many and killed him. He killed another human being. He spent a whopping 24 days in jail, gets some house arrest/probation time, and has been suspended without pay for one season. When he comes back next year, I hope that there’s some major outrage on this one too. Otherwise, what the hell is wrong with us and our priorities?
Additionally, I’m not a big fan of Roger Goodell, but this quote is money:
“As you recognized both at and following the hearing, guilt or innocence as a matter of criminal law is not the same as a violation of NFL policies,” Goodell wrote.
Emphasis mine.
Second thing: I really dislike political commentators, and moreover, I hate politics. Too bad that damn near everything has some political influence/factors. I am so sick of hearing all of the garbage over every bat of an eyelash from the President – from both sides! Can someone just tell me the facts, please? And I mean facts, not some skewed perversion of them.
Okay, okay. On with the good stuff:

There will be no sweeping, damn it. I’ll still take 3 of 4 from the Spankees ANY TIME. Who said Melky could hit for the cycle in our park anyway? Hmph.
Additional good news is an additional pitcher who has some skills: ladies & germs, put your hands together for Mr. Jake Peavy! Yeah, you know, the one who used his no-trade clause in May to stay in SD because, well, they weren’t sucking and the ChiSox kinda were? Yeah, that’s the guy. He’s still on the DL with an ankle tendon injury, but we’ll rehab him up right. The Sox lost Clayton Richard in the trade (and I love him almost solely because he’s a Michigan man), so that sucks, but I knew no one would take Colon. Hell, we don’t even really want him, but we still have him hanging around somewhere. Waivers? Yes! Let’s put him out unconditionally on waivers! We’re already scrambling to cover starts with Richard gone and Peavy on the DL, why not?
White Sox goodness combined with Twins and Tigers suckitude pulled us within 1.5 games of the division lead, and 1.5 games ahead of the Twinkies. It also keeps us above the .500 mark, although just barely. The upcoming series at home against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will be an interesting one, since the Angels have twice owned the Twins in series recently. It would be nice to keep above .500, wouldn’t it?
So, in other baseball goodness, Super Hottie Matt Kata is still playing big leaguer with the Astros. I’m hoping he hangs in there until the roster expansion and then gets to play a bit into the post-season. He does play for the Astros, so I’m not holding my breath on that post-season bit. But, there’s always hope, right?
I am pretty sure that the month of July just didn’t happen because it’s already August. NFL preseason games start in 10 days. Speaking of that, I really need to get cracking on those KC/Dallas game tickets. Otherwise, that will be an uneventful anniversary weekend in Kansas City for us…and kind of a wasted trip.
As always, work calls. In anticipation of the upcoming wonder that is football season, here’s your Hot Guy Pic:

I may have mentioned it before, and I’ll be surely saying it again, but my husband is the awesome-est. He calls me this morning from his office to see if I would be interested in trading going to one NFL game this year (furthering The Quest) for going to the Big House for a game and to see all the renovations they’ve made. It’s been a few years since we’vegone to a Michigan game, so I’m cool with it. We’ll be playing the Eastern Emus – yes, I know they’re supposedly the Eagles, but if they aren’t the Hurons anymore, they’re the freaking EMUS to me – so I’ll anticipate a fun and full game. I can almost taste the Dominos pepperoni pizza now…
We are still looking for some (relatively cheap) tickets to the Chiefs-Cowboys game in October, so if you know of any, let me know. I’ve been checking Craigslist and eBay, but tickets don’t actually come out until next month, so there’s not a LOT of activity. This is simply to go see a game at Arrowhead as part of The Quest, so I’m not too concerned about seat location. Unfortunately, the KC fans still love their team and everyone wants to see Dallas play (for whatever reason), so it’s been hard snagging those on a good deal.
In baseball stuffs, the ChiSox lost the series opener against the (thankfully) Manny-free Dodgers. The Oz-Man got ejected in the 8th for arguing pitch calls and called the ump out on his “weak” ejection:
“That’s the weakest ejection I’ve ever had,” Guillen said. “I asked where the pitch was, he didn’t like my question and he kicked me out of the game. He big-leagued me. I’m not going to say much because it might cost me one day without pay and one day without my ballclub.”
I love that guy.
Gotta get back to that thing called “work”, so here’s your Hot Guy Pic:

Let’s explore the mysteries of our current world, shall we?
Why is it:
- that people have posted office hours but don’t come into work until after that posted time has come and gone?
- that people can’t figure out that you have to reach highway speeds when merging onto the interstate? We are going to killed, people!
- that I can’t help but laugh at the RFAC when she walks around with her stupid hat on because she “has a migraine”. I don’t know about y’all, but when I get a migraine, there’s very little way I’m functioning normally, and with as Gawd-awful terrible hers (supposedly) are, she shouldn’t be able to freaking move, let alone work in a brightly-lit and somewhat noisy office situation in front of a bright LCD computer monitor.
- that everyone gives a shit about this book written about Alex Rodriguez? Both the writer of the book and the subject of the book are big fat liars and neither deserve a minute more of our time than they’ve already Hoovered up.
- that the Chicago White Sox seem to have no offense other than home runs?
- that the Red Wings are now behind in the series?
- that Joe Mauer has his own theme song? And why is it that this isn’t his first? I love Joe, really, I do, but isn’t this a little, um, egotistical? “…they’re messin’ with the chosen one…”? F’real?
- that Brett Favre thought anyone would buy his “I’m retired” schpeel again. While I won’t give up my autographed football, I fell off that bandwagon after last year’s fiasco.
- (sorry, another one about Brett Favre)that Brett Favre seems to think that he’ll get to enact some sort of revenge on Green Bay? This talk about his talks with the ViQueens means little. Sure, maybe he’ll sign with them and maybe he’ll come to the Frozen Tundra to play the Packers. Maybe he’ll even win, but it would be a hollow victory, tasting completely like shit when the fans that once loved, supported, and cheered for the man boo him with the ferocity of a million scorned women. They say Hell hath no fury…he’d better watch the fuck out for Packers fans who feel betrayed.
I think I’m going to blow the rest of the afternoon looking at law schools.

"...soap poisoning!"
Actually, I think it was food poisoning of a mild variety, but it was unpleasant to say the least. Now I have a pile of work to do and no desire to get to it. If I must, I must, so I’ll make this brief:
The NFL draft is this coming weekend, and I’m not really into it. I guess it’s a good thing I won’t be tempted to watch for hours on end since it is airing all weekend on the NFL Network. Yes, I love football, and I like all of my particular favorites, but who they choose in drafts matters very little to me until they make some impact for the team. So, uh, we’ll see all about this come September.
Other fun football news, sorta, my “BFF” is mad at me for going to see the Chiefs-Cowboys game as part of my anniversary trip with the DH. She luuurves Tony Romo, and I’m going to do my very best to get a picture taken with him, just so I can rub it in. So mean!
The Indianapolis Indians are sitting decidedly un-pretty at 3-7. The most recently scheduled game at Louisville was postponed due to the massive amounts of rain falling in the Ohio River Valley over the past few days. Perhaps it was a mercy ruling from a higher power. I hate it when we suck. I do have to tell you that Scott McCauley, the radio announcer for the Indians, totally nailed it on his assessment of Indians’ hitting in this blog post. Perhaps, Scott, you can explain why Pearce is sucking so bad right now? Is it perhaps his attitude? Maybe I’m just being mean again…
One final thing, and it’s a good one: I must have been a bit psychic (no, not psycho) when I drooled over firefighters last week. The FDIC (Fire Department Instructors Conference) is back in Indy. That means about 30K firefighters are in town. Too bad it’s fucking raining so they won’t be out like they were last year, but the weather is supposed to both clear up and warm up for the end of the week. That could mean great ogling opportunities…and your Hot Guy Pics!

I love it when they play with their hoses.

Yep, that’s what I’m doing. Well, sorta. I’m working on it, and I need to get it in gear so I can figure out my top five schools and sign up for the LSAT. I’m thinking a December test date is in order…I don’t want to put it off too long. They’ll probably change the test again and I just dropped some decent coin to buy a study guide for THIS year’s test.
The NFL announced the 2009 football schedule last night. I’m already scouting it to see what game(s) the DH and I will try to attend this year to further The Quest. Hey, some people go to all the baseball stadiums, we’re going to the football fields. We’re taking a long vacation at the beginning of September, so that kind of kills the early games this year. Starting in November, though, the possibilities are there for a good long weekend trip. I’m thinking maybe Hotlanta, Charlotte, or Seattle. We’ll have to see where we can get good tickets – both plane and game – on the cheap.
Totally cool thing: I own two pairs of Skullcandy earbuds – an Ink’d pair and a pair of Smokin’ Buds. I LOVE THEM. You may have read earlier that I somehow jacked mine up and got a new pair after sending the defective ones in. No questions asked. Anyway, I see this article/video/blog on MSN today about SC. It’s a pretty cool concept they have going. It’s odd to me, however, that they didn’t discuss that one aspect that totally sold me on the brand – the return policy. Yeah, the buds sound amazing (even the cheaper Ink’d ones – wearing them now), but, when a company has a rocking return policy, it’s like whipped cream and cherries on the sundae. I guess I’m more of a mainstream user – since I don’t fall into the skater/snowboarder group – but give me a company with a cool design, a great product, and sweet customer service, and I’m going to be loyal to it. There’s another set of buds I’d love to have, but I can’t justify dropping the dosh for a third set…hey, Skullcandy – send me some and I’ll keep recommending your products to my “mainstream” pals!

Yeesh. I was out for three days with the flu, and it wiped me right out. I won’t go into details – it’s totally freaking gross – but trust in the fact that I didn’t crawl myself off the couch much the past few days.
I tried to come up with something great for my 100th post. Yep, this is it! 100! I guess I’m still not too much like my usual self because I’m just more about chillin’ here in the Cube’o'Doom, trying to get caught up. I thought about 100 hot guys…100 hot athletes…100 fun things about me…but why burn it up? I can use those ideas for 150 or 200 or 1K posts. I’m just not feeling it today.
Not feelin’ it also describes how Spring Training seems to be going. I know, it’s just Spring Training, but you would think that these guys would either A) need to prove themselves to get on the team (MATT KATA, I’m talking to you, Hot Stuff) or B) need to prove themselves so they don’t get lost at the depths of platooning the bench. Side note of sorta-stalkerishness: Tomorrow is Super Hottie Matt Kata’s birthday. Hope it’s great, Matt! Let’s see: Joe Mauer’s hurt (more/again), Joe Crede is playing for the Twinkies, and Manny finally got a contract. Maybe we just need to get through the World Baseball Classic (yawn) and get on to the “real” season. Opening day for the Indianapolis Indians is April 9, and I plan to be there. Probably freezing my ass off.
College basketball is about to reach its frenzied peak. The Ben Televen Tournament is in town this weekend, so there’s a good festive feel about the area. The Butler Bulldogs sucked it up against a really desperate Cleveland State team on Wednesday night (I think - I was dozing on the couch between the DH’s fits during the game and those three days have all run together.). I’m ready to get my bracket together, but it’s going to be a wild tournament this year…a total scrapfest, and it’s going to be great! Maybe I’ll figure out a way to post my bracket on here. That way, we can all make fun of me when I screw it up.
It’s pretty much football doldrums, but you know I’m gonna find that story that makes a certain QB I don’t like look more like an ass than the horseface he is. Check it out here. Don’t worry – they still don’t like you because you picked Tennessee over Ole Miss anyway. Dicksmack.
Hockey is ongoing, and not too terribly. The Wings are at 44-15 and lead the conference with 97 points. Losing in an OT shootout doesn’t help the W-L, but it does give us points. In very, very sad hockey news, I’d like to have a moment of silence for the late Colleen Howe, wife of Gordie, who passed away Friday at the age of 76.
Thanks.
I’m still playing catch-up, so I’ll have to leave you with these lovely reminder of why spring is so great.
- March Madness
- The weather is getting warmer (which leads to #3)
- The firefighters are back to running on the canal. I shall have to bring in a camera.

So, right now, here in Indy, football’s the thing. The Combine’s here until Wednesday, I think. Whatever you might think of the Combine, it’s widely viewed as the best look at the youngsters trying to get into the NFL…you find out all sorts of things (Crabtree’s stress fracture, for example) when you strip these boys down, measure, poke, prod, and race them. Think of it as the Westminster Dog Show for potential NFL rookies. I have HUGE issues with these kids coming out of school early to go into the NFL (Shouldn’t we be encouraging these kids to have a degree? You know, so when they’re broken, burned out, and/or cut from teams they can get a damned job?), but there they are – just down the street – running 40s like the fucking wind because, let’s face it, their future lives may actually depend on it.
Interestingly enough, since I’m from Indiana, football isn’t the first thing I think of when I hear the word “COM-bine”. Right, it’s the big-ass farm implement that harvests…farm girl vs sports fan at its best.
Indy’s also all abuzz (ooh, alliteration on accident) about Marvin Harrison and Jeff Saturday. No, they’re not involved in the Combine. They’re Colts players that, because of some salary cap issues, are going to test out the free agent market. This always makes me laugh – salary cap issues, that is, and the resultant craziness that ensues. It seems to me that the Colts (and other teams as well, but mostly the Colts) like to throw money at players that make a big splash in one postseason (Bob Sanders) or are a big name (Peyton Manning) and let the workhorses go. Sure, they’ve got depth at center behind Saturday, but that man is a machine. Some teams have “star players” that are willing to give up some of their money to keep another awesome player (Larry Fitzgerald). Peyton isn’t about to give up any of his gozillion dollars to keep one of the receivers that has saved his ass so many times. It will be great to see both of these guys get scooped up in free agency and have it come back to bite the Colts in the ass. Mmm, schadenfreude.
Your not-so-news newsflash: Alex Rodriguez is still a liar! Even worse, he can’t figure out his own story. What an asshole. Keep on diggin’, A-Rod, that hole just isn’t quite big enough yet.
This of for-real interest: Former White Sox 3B Joe Crede is now a…a…(damn it) Minnesota Twinkie. His back trouble made him a liability to the Sox, who had a willing replacement in one Josh Fields. The Twins are hoping Crede’s still got enough bat and glove abilities to make the push for the World Series this year. I’m hoping this doesn’t bite the ChiSox in the ass (That’s a bit of someone else’s schadenfreude to maybe have, I suppose. ;) ).
I would love to go to a Spring Training game…too bad the finances aren’t there to let us have a nice long weekend with a baseball game to enjoy in sunny FL (or AZ)…but it’s only 45 days until the home opener for the Indians. I also understand that today may be “picture day” for the clubs. Start looking for those new shots on Getty Images later this week or early next, I’d wager.
Well, now what? February 2, 2009

Football’s over, what with the Steelers eking one out over the Cardinals last night. There are plenty of places you can go to get your fill (and then some) of the conspiracies, the “bad” calls, the whatever. Nope, Kurt Warner wasn’t in the process of throwing the ball forward, he had his arm cocked back, waiting for one of his superhuman receivers to get open. You gotta give credit for the coverage played by the Steelers’ secondary for that last Cardinals drive. They sure as hell didn’t want to let Fitz run that pretty little slant into the middle of wide-open coverage for another TD. (Side note – wasn’t it awesome to watch Fitz check out the distance between him and his pursuer(s) on the JumboTron as he ran that in?)
Here’s the gist – the Steelers won a hard-fought game. It was a great match-up, and anyone who denies the Cardinals their due is just being an ass. It’s pretty simple.
So, now it’s time to talk about the draft – the Senior Bowl’s over and the combine will not come soon enough for some. I am interested to see who the Lions pick…
The DH and I had an argument over this. I said that Tim Tebow and Sam Bradford probably decided to stay in school in order to avoid being drafted by the Lions. I think it’s a crappy way to be – it’s freakin’ football, and they’re still going to pay you a zillion dollars. You could be the “savior” of that group. With a new coach and some good free agent pickups, it could be a Dolphinesque year. The DH disagreed – who wants to go there? No one. He likened it to being offered a lot of money to go and work in Cleveland. He says he wouldn’t do it – he’d never live in Ohio – but I actually doubt that. For enough money, people will do lots of things.
Anyway, now that football’s over, it’s time for hockey and college basketball. I’ll try and keep up on some good stuff for my few readers…and I’ll figure out a way to keep the hot athletes on the page during this season (it’s hard this time of year). For now, let’s end it on a Good, Bad, Ugly, and Funny:
Good: It was a good game last night. The sun is out yet again over the skyline of Indy. There’s a really hot guy at the gym, and I got to see him in shorts for the first time yesterday…rawr!
Bad: Opening Day in baseball isn’t for a while and I can’t afford to hop a plane to Florida for any spring training games (although I’d LOVE TO). It’s still effing cold.
Ugly: In a “who gives a fuck” moment, a British tab has printed some photos of Michael Phelps taking hits off a water bong. He’s owned up to it, and apologized. This is similar to Matt Leinart’s beer bong/hot tub photos – who cares? I mean, really??
Funny: Kurt Warner trying to tackle James Harrison on the big man’s 100-yd pick6. Nice, Kurt. Way to (not) sacrifice the body.
Hot Guy Pic: In honor, of course, I present Coach Hottie – I mean, Mike Tomlin:
