Ah, so much has happened since I have last posted. Mostly, I’ve either been busy or lazy, so the writing thing hasn’t happened. So, now, it’s catch-up time. I’m always trying to do this in fun and somewhat interesting ways, so here’s a new one. In line with the Jay-Z and Ja Rule song “Can I get a…”, I’m going to line out some random thoughts. Hold on to your lunchbox…

First, let me just say that I did not watch Game 7. I am glad that I didn’t. In fact, I haven’t even read a recap of it for it would make me far too sad. That said, congratulations to the Pittsburgh Penguins. In the words (and accent!) of Sean Connery, you were a most worthy adversary…and it was probably well-deserved. But I refuse to go find out. Hell, I’m not even going to find out who won the Conn Smythe – yes I am, wait…well, at least it’s not Sidney.
In good news, the Chicago White Sox have won the last two of their series with the Brewers. The Milwaukee boys have been good on the DL lately, so it’s nice to take a few games here and there. And, while he’s not attractive to me whatsoever, I love A.J. Pierzynski. His attitude problem and my attitude problem are similar…maybe we’re related. Cooler yet, Mark Buehrle smacked his first professional HR. BUT (there’s always one of those), the ChiSox are 4.5 games back from the Tiggers, and 1.5 games behind the Twinkerbells…it’s the middle of June. Shouldn’t we be playing some good ball (consistently) by now?
The Indianapolis Indians are 3.0 games behind the Louisville Bats, but are getting closer to that elusive .500 mark. If they get to that threshold, it will be the first time they’ve had a winning season since I’ve been following them. What an accomplishment!
Super Hottie Matt Kata is still on the active roster for the Astros, making this Angel quite happy for him. He seems to be getting into the groove, finally climbing out of the batting average cellar and, of course, doing a fine job at defense. I told my crazy friend that we’re going to CIN if he’s still playing with the Astros. As the saying on the Ladies… goes, it’s not stalking if you bought a ticket!
In non-sports things, I had a great weekend with some friends. I was on the lookout for a replacement for El Quattro…there was one who was close, but, alas, it was not to be. The DH and I have a long weekend with other friends coming up, and I am only partially looking forward to the trip. It will be nice to get away, but this trip is with 6 other adults and their 6 children. In one house. And it looks like it might rain all day Sunday. I’ll try to stay positive though: we’re bringing lots of alcohol, and I love all the guys – just not necessarily their wives.
And now, I should go do work. Or take my lunch. Work is totally overrated today anyway.

That, my friends, is what I have to work on today. Not that this is much of a change from every other day, but sometimes I do have important projects. Like last week, for example. However, I completed all of those and now I am stuck with the mindless stuff.
Anyway, that gives me more time and incentive to do stuff like blog and research law schools. You know, goof off.
Interesting tidbit before I get to your regular dose of sports and me drooling over hot athletes: I found the Overrated List blog sort of by accident. I thought it was pretty cool that you could submit your own, so I did. Mine went up yesterday. Good site, Andrew.
Back to your anticipated programming: sports!
- I am trying to keep my excitement under wraps for Game 6 tonight between the Wings and Pens. It’s back at Mellon (the Igloo), and the Wings are ahead in the series 3-2 after an awesome Game 5 at the Joe. The DH doesn’t want to watch the game for fear that he’ll jinx it. I’d like to watch it so I can yell at the TV a lot. Part of me wants the Wings to win it just to get it done, but the other part wants it to come back to the D for Game 7 madness…Go Wings!
- I am also trying to stay positive for Matt Kata – the word on the web is that Kaz Matsui will be back with the Astros against the Cubs tonight. The Astros bought Matt’s contract from Round Rock when Matsui went on the DL…I’m hoping only good things for him now that Kaz is back.
- Once again, the former Indy Indian I like to call “Pornstache”, Josh Wilson, was called on to pitch in a Major league game. He didn’t fare as well for the Padres as he did for the Diamondbacks, but…at least he’s playing in the bigs, right?
I should get back to the mindless drivel since I’m supposed to have it done today. Before I go, I leave you with this Hot Guy:

If he were pitching in Houston today, I'd be able to watch for double-hottie pleasure. Instead, he's rehabbing with the AAA Iowa Cubs. Poor fragile thing. (Photo: Getty Images via SI.com)

Still swamped here in the Cube’o'Doom, so I’m getting in a quickie Good, Bad, Ugly & Funny:
Good: The Wings play again tonight. Last night the DH and I finished our third 8-week circuit at the gym. We go Friday for the new routine.
Bad: I can’t believe the Pirates traded away Nate McLouth. The Wings are playing in PGH again.
Ugly: I’m totally grossed out that the FSB is walking around the office barefoot. Eww.
Funny: Check out the Ladies… theme post today. Being the dirty-minded angel I am, my first thought was “they all have arms I’d like to run my tongue over”. No, seriously. Even Pat Burrell, who I do not find hot in my standard way. I’d run my tongue all over Joe Mauer, but that’s neither her nor there.
Bonus Hot Guy Pic:
No longer to be in a ChiSox uni, Lance was traded to the Mets...
Why does ESPN suck so much? June 3, 2009

Why do they suck SO FREAKING MUCH that the goddamned Versus channel that I DO NOT GET on my satellite package is showing the Stanley Cup Finals? Why, instead of trying to show some actual sports – or ones people may actually be interested in watching – was I watching Baseball Tonight with the volume off so I could follow the bottom score tracker? Yeah, Baseball Tonight. And then Sportscenter. Whoop-de-freaking-do.
Anyone know where I can stream tomorrow’s game for free on the web? I’m not paying the extra $$ just to have Versus. Or the CBC. If I get the CBC, I’ll have to tear the DH away from watching curling. Seriously. Seriously. I need a link. Anyone?
I think that ESPN has gone the way of MTV. No longer do we actually show what we were built upon (sports or music videos), but we’ll have 9,000 different shows to talk about them. Or the people that play/make them. Or whatever.
The Wings lost to a “desperate” Pens last night at Mellon Arena. How they got away without being called for too many men on the ice for as long as they were out there, I don’t know. I didn’t get to watch, so I can only speculate based on what I get to read in reviews and rehashes today. Damn!

Tomorrow’s game is also in PGH. I have faith. I have hope. I have pictures of hot hockey players.

Three Things June 1, 2009

Because I need to get more work done today, I have a brief post of just three things:
- In college, we used to call GM “Generous Motors” for what they would pay our friends that were lucky enough to get co-op jobs there. Now, I guess they should be called “Government Motors”. I think this could be bad, but let’s all hope I’m wrong. I really would like to continue buying GM products.
- The Red Wings are ahead in the Stanley Cup Finals, 2-0. This is good. The series continues tonight in Pittsburgh. Let’s go Wings!
- I love Curtis Granderson. This post on the Big League Stew is why. It is beneficial that he’s pretty hot.

Huh. All 3 things are related to Detroit. This was not intentional, but I like it nonetheless.

I’ve only seen Scrubs a few times, and I was alwaysstruck with how much alike Zach Braff’scharacter and I are alike. I tend to assign music and funny situations to otherwise routine days. Today, I was thinking that everyone should be able to have a soundtrack to their lives. What an awesome accessory – you go walking onto a room full of people, and depending on your mood and the situation, the appropriate song is playing. Now, some folks do this with their iPods cranked to unbelievable volumes anyway (the guy at the gym the other day was listening to some seriously angry metal and it could be heard clearly from two benches away. Yikes!), but I’m talking about the mysterious narrator and overhead/background music…
Anyway, enough about that. The Red Wings defeated the very desperate Blackhawksin OT last night. This, of course, means that they will be facing the Penguins in the Stanley Cup Finals. This worries me a little. I’m pretty sure (as stated yesterday) that the Pens are out for revenge on both the Wings and Marion Hossa.
On the subject of the Wings, I read a comment on a blog (I don’t remember which one – I read a lot of them) saying that the Wings are the Yankees of hockey. I guess I can see that to be true on some levels.
- Both organizations attract big names. I don’t know if the Wings (read: the Ilitchs) are forking out Yankee-sized dough for their stars…I don’t keep up with that part of it.
- Both organizations have been big winners of the course of their existence. The Wings are just a bit more current on the winning bit than the Yanks.
- Both have fans everywhere. Funny thing to me is that Wings fans don’t seem to be as big of assholes as Yankees fans. It also seem that the Wings themselves aren’t as big of assholes as the Yankees. Do the Yankees’ fans have a cool name like the Wing Nuts do?
Let’s see: The White Sox couldn’t finish off the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for the sweep. DeWayneWise is working on a rehab assignment in Charlotte. I don’t know if his return would be good or not. Hell, who knows with this team right now? This is about the normal roller-coaster ride with my ChiSox, but it’s getting somewhat nauseating.
Tomorrow’s my 31st birthday. I feel no different from my 29th or 30th, so it’s no biggie. I wonder when that “oh my gawd, i am so old” feeling is going to hit? I had no issues with turning 30. Now I’ll officially be “in my 30s”, and I still am not having that freak-out that some people feel I should. Maybe it’s because I still act like I’m 25?

I’m feeling quite on the snarky pitch today, so I’ll keep this short. Otherwise, it will become an epic piece on the long laments of a disgruntled human. To spare us all, I think I’ll do a Good, Bad, Ugly, and Funny. I just have to remember to keep the Bad and Ugly to minimalist proportions today!
Good: I only have one more day to work this week, so I can enjoy another long weekend. We have tickets to Saturday night’s Indians game, and I’m looking forward to dinner at Mel’s beforehand.
Bad: I have absolutely no desire to work today. It’s a byproduct of last week’s piss-off on this project I don’t agree with. The Pens beat the ‘Canes.
Ugly: I don’t even want to go to the gym today, but I can’t let myself get into that mode of putting it off for “one more day”. I am not looking forward to another Detroit-Pittsburgh Stanley Cup because those Pens are going to want it way worse this year. That, and they’re going to beat the shit out of Hossa. No good, kids.
Funny: I’m going to have to bust out the Febreze if the guy in the next cube over keeps that up. I think he should NOT eat whatever that was EVER AGAIN!

I shouldn’t feel this way. It’s a bright sunny day outside and it’s Thursday. It’s Thursday before a long weekend where I don’t really have any major plans. I should feel great. Instead, I feel moody and apathetic. Okay, they both happen all the time, but it’s worse today. Why? I had a shitty afternoon at work yesterday.
I try very hard to do my job to the absolute best that I can do. When I’m spouting the nearly-legalese and/or putting it down on paper, I try and make it right. It has my name on it after all. I refuse to be stupid on purpose. When that approach is thwarted, it makes me cranky. I try to argue my point – that’s not the right way to do it, I say – but it makes little difference. So, today, I have the “why do I even fucking bother?” attitude. Hopefully I can pick it up today and get back to feeling like I should (my horoscope actually said I should be open to counseling. I don’t think it’s THAT bad.).
Anyway, about those sports I love:
- The White Sox have won two in a row over Super Hottie Joe Mauer and the Twinkies. That’s quite nice. Also nice: The Q looks to be back in the lineup on Friday.
- Pittsburgh Steeler James Harrison has ruffled some feathers with his comments, and then switchback comments, to the annual invitation of the Super Bowl winners to the White House. So, a pro athlete made some dumb comment, and then made some other dumb comments to try and cover up the original dumb comment. Move along; nothing new to see here, folks.
- I find it odd that the NHL Playoffs are going on, but neither MSN nor Yahoo! Sports have anything about hockey on the fronts of those sections. The Hurricanes of Carolina need to step it up in Game 2 tonight to stay relevant in the series against PGH. It can be done.
- It makes me laugh to think of Danica going to NASCAR…
I should go back to that work thing I’m supposed to be doing. Maybe a nice, hot picture to make that easier?

Dreamboat coughs politely to cover up his laughter when a reporter asks him if he's seen Mark Sanchez's GQ photo spread. (Not really, but you know. Photo: NY Daily News)

I think it’s a good thing I don’t have to drive far to work. The combination in the title could be disasterous for that. I am leaving the Cube’O'Doom behind for the day as I go on an outreach trip. Woo! Watch out Southern Indiana! So, I’m going to bang out a quick post here and “see” everyone again later.
Woo! Sports!
- My instincts proved true yesterday when the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Washington Capitals. It was a pretty resounding loss, one that I’m sure the Caps will take to heart. That means that they’re one to watch out for next year.
- The White Sox lost, again, to the Indians yesterday. I think this means we’re at the bottom of the AL Central. Dude, that sux. It’s way worse that the Tigers, the DH’s preferred AL team, are on top of the division. I just keep saying (for both our benefit) that it’s only May and there’s a long season to go. But now, the ChiSox are heading to the Great White North to play against Doc Halladay and the Jays. Aw, hell.

Come on, Scotty Po-Po, get in the game!
- As much as I don’t care about the NBA, I was kind of glad to see that the Mavericks lost. Not so much for the team as a whole, but for their idiot owner. There’s a whole post ripe for the picking: Why Mark Cuban is an idiot. It would be a long one.
I need to head on south, so I’ll leave you with what you’re hoping for: your Hot Guy Pic!
