I couldn’t decide if I wanted to do a whole bunch of posts since I have a few subjects to go over or if I just wanted to cram it all into one. I determined that this may keep me from rambling too much. Maybe.
I am going to “adopt” a soldier to send stuff to. I have a total soft spot for military personnel, and have been mulling this over in my head for a while. I am still a little nervous. What if “my” soldier finds my letters really freaking annoying? Will the care packages make up for it? I guess, overall, it doesn’t matter. He or she doesn’t have to write back. But, I could be lucky and get someone who appreciates my obnoxious sense of humor…here’s hoping.
Next subject: I should probably move before I go insane. The State of Indiana passed a budget yesterday. It only took 9,273 days to do it. Kidding – it only felt like that long. The worst part is that the state budget includes a component to bail out the worst government department ever - the fucking CIB. That’s the Capital Improvement Board for the City of Indianapolis, and this little group is responsible for the operation/maintenance(!)/whatever of two of the city’s four sports venues – Conseco Fieldhouse and the blasted behemoth that is Lucas Oil Stadium. Why does the CIB need a bailout you ask? It’s because they’re a group of idiots that a) don’t know shit about how much it costs to build and/or operate anything and b)like to kneel at the throne of Irsay. Truly, it is an extension of the overwhelming dislike I have for the Colts and their ownership, but it has it’s own twist. I’m now paying for it in multiple ways. It’s not enough to bump up the sales tax and food/beverage tax and tourism taxes (hotels and rental cars), no, now I have to pay for it out of my State income taxes. MOTHERFUCKERS.
Moving on before I blow a gasket somewhere: The White Sox have now won 4 in a row, defeating Cliff Lee and his Indians last night in a weather-shortened game. Yeah, bishes, 11-4 brings us above the .500 mark. That would be nice to hang onto. I do have to say that Michigan alumni Clayton Richard didn’t do half bad last night in his start. I’ll not complain about it, at least. We’re set to rumble again tonight – let’s go for the sweep!
The DH and I went to the Indianapolis Indians’ game last night and had a good time. We had great seats on the third base line (my preference), and watched a crazy one. Indians’ infielder Chris Barnwell now has a new nickname – Barney – from us for his, um, antics last night. I still think Mike Koplove has a weird approach and he earned the loss, gaining two strikes from this fan. Sorta-hottie Garrett Jones and his big bat have been called up to PGH, and Jeff Salazar got the same deal. Once again, we’re trying to groom the kiddies for an upward move…at least we’re not in last place this year.
Super Hottie Matt Kata is still surviving on the Astros’ roster, occasionally making big enough plays to stay alive in the Majors. That’s good enough for me; they keep video highlights involving his hotness coming on the Astros’ website. At last night’s Indians’ game, there was an announcement about a Fantasy Night at Victory Field…the DH says “nope, that was last year for my wife. One season too late.” He’s a good man for taking my drooling in stride.
In closing: Welcome back to the bigs, Rich!

First, let me just say that I did not watch Game 7. I am glad that I didn’t. In fact, I haven’t even read a recap of it for it would make me far too sad. That said, congratulations to the Pittsburgh Penguins. In the words (and accent!) of Sean Connery, you were a most worthy adversary…and it was probably well-deserved. But I refuse to go find out. Hell, I’m not even going to find out who won the Conn Smythe – yes I am, wait…well, at least it’s not Sidney.
In good news, the Chicago White Sox have won the last two of their series with the Brewers. The Milwaukee boys have been good on the DL lately, so it’s nice to take a few games here and there. And, while he’s not attractive to me whatsoever, I love A.J. Pierzynski. His attitude problem and my attitude problem are similar…maybe we’re related. Cooler yet, Mark Buehrle smacked his first professional HR. BUT (there’s always one of those), the ChiSox are 4.5 games back from the Tiggers, and 1.5 games behind the Twinkerbells…it’s the middle of June. Shouldn’t we be playing some good ball (consistently) by now?
The Indianapolis Indians are 3.0 games behind the Louisville Bats, but are getting closer to that elusive .500 mark. If they get to that threshold, it will be the first time they’ve had a winning season since I’ve been following them. What an accomplishment!
Super Hottie Matt Kata is still on the active roster for the Astros, making this Angel quite happy for him. He seems to be getting into the groove, finally climbing out of the batting average cellar and, of course, doing a fine job at defense. I told my crazy friend that we’re going to CIN if he’s still playing with the Astros. As the saying on the Ladies… goes, it’s not stalking if you bought a ticket!
In non-sports things, I had a great weekend with some friends. I was on the lookout for a replacement for El Quattro…there was one who was close, but, alas, it was not to be. The DH and I have a long weekend with other friends coming up, and I am only partially looking forward to the trip. It will be nice to get away, but this trip is with 6 other adults and their 6 children. In one house. And it looks like it might rain all day Sunday. I’ll try to stay positive though: we’re bringing lots of alcohol, and I love all the guys – just not necessarily their wives.
And now, I should go do work. Or take my lunch. Work is totally overrated today anyway.

There have been few breaks in the “heavy rain” we’re supposed to get for the next two days. This sort of sucks, because I’m supposed to be going to the Indians’ game tonight with a friend. With as wet as it’s been lately, and all the rain we’re getting today, I have a feeling this one will be rescheduled.
(swiped from the Weather Channel) |
The game is scheduled to start at 7pm. Should the table above be anywhere close to correct, I don’t see this one happening. I know the guys will play in the rain, but this might border on ridiculous. That, and I forgot my big umbrella, ella, ella. I don’t even know if my broken one is still in the trunk of the car. I could make it work if I had to.
In other sports-type stuff, the Chicago White Sox won last night, defeating the Mariners. This win pushes them 1 game over the .500 mark, which is where the DH’s Cubs currently sit. He also chooses to disparage my team in favor of the Tigers, who, amazingly enough, are also at 11-10. The Boys in Black poured on the homers to keep from sucking it up in another series – AJ, Dye, and Quentin all had solo HRs. In bad news, Thome is hurt and may not play in Texas, but in good news, Chris Getz is back in with his fractured finger. With all the injuries, I am curious to see who Ozzie pulls up from Charlotte.
The Detroit Red Wings are back in action tomorrow at the Joe against the Anaheim Rubber Duckies. (HT to Games Mistress over at the Ladies… for the great name idea – she also posted several pics of yummers Patrick Sharp, therefore, also deserving of the proverbial HT.) The Blackhawks play the Canucks and the Bruins are looking to defeat the Hurricans, but the big story is the Ovie-Sid the Kid matchup in the Caps vs Pens battle. Meh.
…yep, still raining.
Anyway, I’ll leave you with the usual cherry-on-top goodness: your Hot Guy Pic!

It is so freaking nice outside. I went out with my sammitch and enjoyed the beautiful weather for lunch along the Canal. It was hard to drag myself back in here. Only 1:45 left to go in this day…
Good: The Indians won again last night over the Columbus Clippers. The Ladies… have some new arrivals and one hates the Manning Family. She may be my new best friend. I can handle her retro Packer hate for that one. The weekend is supposed to be beautiful and I get to try out my new upside-down tomato planter. Hottie Joe Mauer should be coming back to the Twins soon.
Bad: I have to at least look at stuff for the Twins to find out about Joe Mauer’s status. I have to spend the majority of Saturday inside. I need to weed the flowerbeds already. The ChiSox lost yesterday to the Orioles – that’s no way to end a road trip! 1:38 left to work today.
Ugly: I really wish Nick Swisher was hitting like this for the White Sox last year. My fucking credit card company and their “well, it just costs us more to issue credit” excuse for jacking up my rate.
Funny: I told my uber-dramatic friend that I got a hot date to the Indians’ game on 4/30, and she thought I was stepping out on the DH. I had to explain that I was taking another friend since the DH will be MIA for work.

I think we have the official Printer’O'Doom in our department’s area. Since it’s located just outside the Cube’O'Doom, it should be expected, I suppose, but this thing gets louder and clunkier every day. It’s left over from the previous group that resided in these cubes, and I think they left it on purpose. Oddly enough, it works okay, but it is SO LOUD I can hear it plainly over my headphones. I think we may have to shoot it.
Ah, let’s see…it is beautiful outside, and this may be the drawback to sitting by the windows. I want to be out there instead of in here, and so does everyone else. I can’t speak for everyone, but very little has gotten done in the Cube’O'Doom today because people keep trekking over to gaze longingly outside. There is seriously not a cloud in sight.
The Indianapolis Indians actually have won two in a row now, holding leads built over Toledo in some high-scoring games. They move on to Columbus for a 4-game stint before coming back home. Perhaps a groove has been located? I’ll not hold my breath.
In related news, the Indians advertise in some of the mailings that go to every home in the area – this magazine happens to have coupons and ads for local places. I go through these because I am a coupon queen, and, after last night, I’m glad that I do. The Indians’ ad in this one consisted of an action shot of none other than Super Hottie Matt Kata. I know, he doesn’t play for us anymore, but most people wouldn’t know that. In fact, most people wouldn’t be able to tell you who it is other than “an Indians player”. Fortunately, the #6 is shown on his jersey, and, because I ogled him all last season, I know the man when I see him.

It's not quite the photo from the ad, but it's still him, and he's still hot. (Photo: Bill Gentry via www.indyindians.com)

"...soap poisoning!"
Actually, I think it was food poisoning of a mild variety, but it was unpleasant to say the least. Now I have a pile of work to do and no desire to get to it. If I must, I must, so I’ll make this brief:
The NFL draft is this coming weekend, and I’m not really into it. I guess it’s a good thing I won’t be tempted to watch for hours on end since it is airing all weekend on the NFL Network. Yes, I love football, and I like all of my particular favorites, but who they choose in drafts matters very little to me until they make some impact for the team. So, uh, we’ll see all about this come September.
Other fun football news, sorta, my “BFF” is mad at me for going to see the Chiefs-Cowboys game as part of my anniversary trip with the DH. She luuurves Tony Romo, and I’m going to do my very best to get a picture taken with him, just so I can rub it in. So mean!
The Indianapolis Indians are sitting decidedly un-pretty at 3-7. The most recently scheduled game at Louisville was postponed due to the massive amounts of rain falling in the Ohio River Valley over the past few days. Perhaps it was a mercy ruling from a higher power. I hate it when we suck. I do have to tell you that Scott McCauley, the radio announcer for the Indians, totally nailed it on his assessment of Indians’ hitting in this blog post. Perhaps, Scott, you can explain why Pearce is sucking so bad right now? Is it perhaps his attitude? Maybe I’m just being mean again…
One final thing, and it’s a good one: I must have been a bit psychic (no, not psycho) when I drooled over firefighters last week. The FDIC (Fire Department Instructors Conference) is back in Indy. That means about 30K firefighters are in town. Too bad it’s fucking raining so they won’t be out like they were last year, but the weather is supposed to both clear up and warm up for the end of the week. That could mean great ogling opportunities…and your Hot Guy Pics!

I have a totally short attention span today, so here’s hoping I make it through this quickly before I lose focus.
‘Kay – I’m crazy hyper for some reason. The song that just cycled onto the mp3 player is “Baby Got Back”, and I’m fighting the urge to dance around in the Cube’O'Doom. This random energy burst began around 9 and has waxed and waned since.
“…and you want a triple-X throwdown…”
The ChiSox beat up on the Tigers yesterday with some majoro hitting, including back-to-back homers from Dye and Konerko. Those HRs were number 300 for each of them, but there was no big heads in that dugout. From Jermaine Dye on ESPNChicago:
“I think we’re just good hitters with power,” Dye said. “I think we both hit a lot of line drives that are able to get out of the ballpark. You look at Jim [teammate Jim Thome] and he’s 250 ahead of us. So I don’t know if you can call us home-run hitters.”
Totally freaking awesome.
The Indianapolis Indians are 1-4, already in the hole this season. It’s been raining here in the Circle City for almost two straight days and they’re playing through it. Slippy grass makes for injuries, so here’s hoping the guys are careful. Immediately to mind is potential hottie Garrett Jones, who currently plays RF. I mentioned him before when the Indians faced off against him and his former team, Rochester, last season…I’ll have to do a better job of checking him out at my next game – April 30. Until then, here’s what I have:

from the gods. It’s currently raining, and it’s supposed to all day today and most of the day tomorrow. These cloud-delivered tears are for many things: the team, friends, and family of Nick Adenhart; the super crappy Opening Night loss plus two more for the Indianapolis Indians; and the fact that this week just might suck. That last one is preemptive, not delayed, but you get my point.
It was a SU-UCK for Opening Night. We met all the players in the roster introductions…14 new guys to get to know over the summer. This first game was not a good first impression. However, there are at least two – yes, two – possibly ogleworthy guys on the team. None match the eye-searing hotness of Matt Kata, but a girl’s gotta have something to watch when the game’s gone to shit. I’ll, uh, let you know what develops from future ogling.
After the opening triples for the Tribe, shit is the exact place the game went…pitching was not so great, as usual, and the batting wasn’t hot either – well, after those first two triples, I guess.
I’m just guessing, but the guys weren’t really into it on Thursday night anyway. I saw/heard Steve Pearce tell his mom (I think that’s who that was) that he was “real excited” for another season of Indians baseball. If you can’t read the level of dripping sarcasm in that, you should have seen the way he tried to play it off when another nearby fan called him on it. Bad, bad, bad. Neil Walker – someone who should be just kicking ass to try and get into the majors – was a total slacker on the defense at third, letting at least two hits get by him, prompting me to use some lines from Major League (“none of this ‘ole’ bullshit” for one) in his direction. It’s a bad thing when you want to heckle your own team.
In other unpleasant news, Adam Boeve wasn’t a part of the Opening Night roster. It appears that he has been released and is an unsigned free agent floating about in the MiLB system. Here’s hoping he finds a good home.
Last but not least, Super Hottie Matt Kata is not faring so well either, with a .111 AVG. Granted, this is after four whole games, and he was only a pinch hitter in one, but, still. I’m impatient and want to see results, damn it!
While I don’t want anyone to be injured, the Astros have a tendency toward them, and, if Matt does well in Round Rock, he could be called up. I’m not holding my breath, but it could happen. Yeah, it could happen.
The rain is pelting the windows here at the Cube’O'Doom, so I guess I’ll try and do some work. Here’s a ray of sun-like hotness for you, if nothing else but to brighten the day:

It's sunny in Arizona, no?

I am so ready for tonight! I thought the itch would go away after having it all day yesterday, but today, I’m more distracted and ready to get out of here. Technically, my work day is done. I’m chillin’ here, researching law schools for future consideration…and occasionally checking the score of the ChiSox-Royals game. Last I looked, it was 0-0. Now, bottom of the 8th, the score’s still the same.
In baseball news, a tragic ending for a bright young up-and-comer. There are lots of articles on this (here and here, for example), but Nick Adenhart of the Halos was killed in a car accident after a great game – six shutout innings, to be exact. From this angel to those Angels, and to Nick’s parents, my sincerest condolences. It’s so very sad. I’m sure a moment of silence for this young man will happen at tonight’s game, as it should.
Shit. Top of the 9th and the Royals have 2 in.
Joe Crede is making his first appearance back in Chicago since going to the Twins on Friday. I’m sure it will be a wild experience for him…he’ll be cheered and heckled all in the same breath from the Sox fans. What a great place to be. I told the DH I wanted tix to a game at CommiskeyUS Cellular for my birthday and a new Sox hat. My little bro has my old one…and won’t give it back. Bitch.
Anyway, back to the law school search. There’s a zillion more to check out to give the first narrowing (like I probably won’t go to any in the state of Ohio, simply out of principle).
Come on, Opening Night April 8, 2009

All of the sudden, I have the itch…the itch to go watch some baseball. Opening Night here in Indy is tomorrow, so I have to wait one more day.

I’ll have to remember the camera to upload some photos…mmm…athletes.
Anyway, Opening Week in all of baseball continues. There’s no way in the world to start feeling one way or the other about your teams’ long-term hopes. It’s a bit early. Even the diehards have to admit that. Well, unless you’re a Cubs’ fan, and then it’s ALWAYS the year, isn’t it?
I have to tell you that I’m glad that the White Sox did not follow the lead of the Red Sox and go back to the logo with the actual socks. I’m not impressed with either design, and there’s something so sweet and badass about the real Sox logo that I just love. The ChiSox won the opener with some majoro help from big Jim Thome. Gawd, I love that guy. Too bad he’s not hot.

And it's outta here! (Photo: Chicago Tribune)
Overall, my dears, it is a good time. The eyeblack and the boys of summer that wear it (I like it on football players, too, don’t get me wrong) are back, and I am loving it. And just so you Cubs fans aren’t too upset with me, here’s today Hot Guy Pic:
