I made a post yesterday and was all set to publish it.

And then I decided against it.

It was a big rant and rave about the DHs father and pretty much how I think he’s the biggest slimeball on the face of the planet.  I don’t think that needs to be publicly aired at this time – I don’t know who exactly is reading this blog…

Anyway!  On a happier set of topics, maybe, as there’s interesting stuff afoot in the sports world.

The All-Star break.  It is upon us in both the Major League and in AAA baseball.  This means basically no sports at this particular time.  Oh, sure, there’s probably golf or something, but nothing I really want to watch.

I suppose I can’t complain too loudly…I want a week (or two) off every year, so probably most people do, including professional baseball players not chosen to participate in the All-Star events.

Let’s see:  Hottie Joe Mauer was eliminated in the first round of the Home Run Derby last night.  Prince Fielder won.  I wonder how much of his power is associated with the interia from  swinging that belly around?  I’m not sayin’, I’m just sayin’.

The White Sox slid into the week-long snoozefest with a loss to the Twinkerbells…this leaves us at 3 1/2 games back and those Twinkies a mere 4 games back from the Tiggers.  At this point, I’m happy that we’re above .500, even if it’s just barely.

The dancing days are over in Houston and in the Cube’o'Doom.  Matt Kata, with his wretched batting average has been sent down to Round Rock as the Astros claim C/UTIL Chris Coste off of waivers.  I’m terribly sorry, and as much as I love-love-love Matt, batting a .182 isn’t going to take you places, regardless of those relatively clutch hits making up the .182.  It’s probably bittersweet for him: his family (wife and twin baby boys) are in Round Rock, but there’s nothing like that big league play time.  Not that I wish harm on anyone, but maybe someone will have an injury (at the All-Star festivities??) and they’ll call my man Matt back up so he can try to improve.

I had a great weekend, even though I was completely drenched for most of Saturday.  I went to a handgun shooting class and it opened up and poured on us!  The instructors were watching the weather (sorta) and kept saying that it was going to lighten up, but it never did.  There is very little worse than wet jeans, but the acrid smell of the gunpowder and the full-on bulls-eye I hit with my first shot might have made it all worthwhile.  Now it’s time to move past the 100-level class…perhaps the sun will shine on the 200. :)

Back to work, but for you and I to enjoy – my favorite All-Star:

I may have mentioned it before, and I’ll be surely saying it again, but my husband is the awesome-est.  He calls me this morning from his office to see if I would be interested in trading going to one NFL game this year (furthering The Quest) for going to the Big House for a game and to see all the renovations they’ve made.  It’s been a few years since we’vegone to a Michigan game, so I’m cool with it.  We’ll be playing the Eastern Emus – yes, I know they’re supposedly the Eagles, but if they aren’t the Hurons anymore, they’re the freaking EMUS to me – so I’ll anticipate a fun and full game.  I can almost taste the Dominos pepperoni pizza now…

We are still looking for some (relatively cheap) tickets to the Chiefs-Cowboys game in October, so if you know of any, let me know.  I’ve been checking Craigslist and eBay, but tickets don’t actually come out until next month, so there’s not a LOT of activity.  This is simply to go see a game at Arrowhead as part of The Quest, so I’m not too concerned about seat location.  Unfortunately, the KC fans still love their team and everyone wants to see Dallas play (for whatever reason), so it’s been hard snagging those on a good deal.

In baseball stuffs, the ChiSox lost the series opener against the (thankfully) Manny-free Dodgers.  The Oz-Man got ejected in the 8th for arguing pitch calls and called the ump out on his “weak” ejection:

“That’s the weakest ejection I’ve ever had,” Guillen said. “I asked where the pitch was, he didn’t like my question and he kicked me out of the game. He big-leagued me. I’m not going to say much because it might cost me one day without pay and one day without my ballclub.”

I love that guy.

Gotta get back to that thing called “work”, so here’s your Hot Guy Pic:

I feel so much better today.  I think everyone has to go through those days of total shit to get to and to appreciate the good ones.  So, this is like a 180-degree difference…

…which is a whole fucking lot like the damned Chicago White Sox did yesterday!  WHAT THE FUCK?  20-1?  Yeah, it’s freaking hilarious when it happens to the Spankees, but it ain’t funny when it happens to the South Siders.  Oh, yes, I know – Hottie Deluxe Joe Mauer killed us with his big bat (pausing a moment to think of the really dirty images and thoughts on that line…okay, I’m good) what with his grand slam, 872 doubles and perfect dazzling grin, but it is well-documented that I can love individuals while hating the team.  Even my good friend N sends me an email with the subject line “Oh for the love”.  Anyway, that bit of bile out the way…

I would like to post my sincere and heartfelt appreciation for our military personnel, the police officers, the firefighters (more dirty thoughts…), and those that we have loved and lost.  It is a brave and wonderful thing that you do/have done, and for that, I am extremely grateful.

On the military note, I have to bring up the kid in this story I read.  Here’s a photo of a kid, 19 no less, fighting in Afghanistan in his pink boxers and flip-flops.  Turns out he ran out of sleeping quarters to help when they came under fire, and he was worried that he’d be in trouble for not being in full uniform.  I say to give this lad a medal for bravery.  I’d probably sleep in full riot gear in such a place.  I’ve included a link to the story in the pic, so click to read the AP story on Yahoo!.

Let’s explore the mysteries of our current world, shall we?

Why is it:

  • that people have posted office hours but don’t come into work until after that posted time has come and gone?
  • that people can’t figure out that you have to reach highway speeds when merging onto the interstate?  We are going to killed, people!
  • that I can’t help but laugh at the RFAC when she walks around with her stupid hat on because she “has a migraine”.  I don’t know about y’all, but when I get a migraine, there’s very little way I’m functioning normally, and with as Gawd-awful terrible hers (supposedly) are, she shouldn’t be able to freaking move, let alone work in a brightly-lit and somewhat noisy office situation in front of a bright LCD computer monitor.
  • that everyone gives a shit about this book written about Alex Rodriguez?  Both the writer of the book and the subject of the book are big fat liars and neither deserve a minute more of our time than they’ve already Hoovered up.
  • that the Chicago White Sox seem to have no offense other than home runs?
  • that the Red Wings are now behind in the series?
  • that Joe Mauer has his own theme song?  And why is it that this isn’t his first?  I love Joe, really, I do, but isn’t this a little, um, egotistical?  “…they’re messin’ with the chosen one…”?  F’real?
  • that Brett Favre thought anyone would buy his “I’m retired” schpeel again.  While I won’t give up my autographed football, I fell off that bandwagon after last year’s fiasco.
  • (sorry, another one about Brett Favre)that Brett Favre seems to think that he’ll get to enact some sort of revenge on Green Bay?  This talk about his talks with the ViQueens means little.  Sure, maybe he’ll sign with them and maybe he’ll come to the Frozen Tundra to play the Packers.  Maybe he’ll even win, but it would be a hollow victory, tasting completely like shit when the fans that once loved, supported, and cheered for the man boo him with the ferocity of a million scorned women.  They say Hell hath no fury…he’d better watch the fuck out for Packers fans who feel betrayed.

I think I’m going to blow the rest of the afternoon looking at law schools. :)   Here’s your Hot Guy Pic for today:

Cupcakes for breakfast April 27, 2009

Homemade, but out of a box, cupcakes for breakfast.  I mixed these little dollops of strawberry goodness with cream cheese frosting up late last night to share with the group.  Originally, it was to celebrate my boss hitting her 50-mile mark in her quest to run 100 miles in one attempt.  Well, with the heat (an amazing 88-degree day in late April) and some other snafu-age, it didn’t happen.  I didn’t know about it until this morning, after I had already baked.  Oh well.  So, now the office is having cupcakes for breakfast.

I’m not a runner.  I don’t enjoy it like some do.  It pounds the crap out of my joints and gives me an immense headache when I try.  Maybe I don’t have the proper form or whatever, but I guess I don’t care to learn any different.  We’ve been working out on our program since early November, and I haven’t had to run once.  I like the elliptical, and we have these nifty CrossRamp machines, but I avoid the treadmills.  We’re coming up on six months and the trainers like what they see out of me.  It’s harder for me to see the results, but I do feel better overall.  I just need to keep pushing myself so I can be feeling good about myself when we’re on the beach this Labor Day.

Let’s see:  Sports – the NFL draft happened.  Woo!  The DH and I made fun of it while we were at the gym.  People really go and sit to watch this?  Hmm.  There was a big wreck at Talledega (well, duh.  I think there’s a big wreck there every time.), and Jacoby Ellsbury stole home in the Red Sox’s sweep of the Yanks.  Kewl.

Better – on Saturday that there’s hope that Joe Mauer may return to the Twins earlier than Friday’s anticipated return.  Not that I want any skill back with the Twins, I don’t like to see such hotness wasting away in the minors (where there aren’t a lot of photos taken).

Worse – the ChiSox lost to Toronto.  They still have a team?  Oh, yeah, they have Roy Halladay.

Meh.  I have a lot of work to do today.  But first, I might go snag one of those cupcakes…

It is so freaking nice outside.  I went out with my sammitch and enjoyed the beautiful weather for lunch along the Canal.  It was hard to drag myself back in here.  Only 1:45 left to go in this day…

Good: The Indians won again last night over the Columbus Clippers.  The Ladies… have some new arrivals and one hates the Manning Family.  She may be my new best friend.  I can handle her retro Packer hate for that one.  The weekend is supposed to be beautiful and I get to try out my new upside-down tomato planter.  Hottie Joe Mauer should be coming back to the Twins soon.

Bad:  I have to at least look at stuff for the Twins to find out about Joe Mauer’s status.  I have to spend the majority of Saturday inside.  I need to weed the flowerbeds already.  The ChiSox lost yesterday to the Orioles – that’s no way to end a road trip!  1:38 left to work today.

Ugly:  I really wish Nick Swisher was hitting like this for the White Sox last year.  My fucking credit card company and their “well, it just costs us more to issue credit” excuse for jacking up my rate.

Funny:  I told my uber-dramatic friend that I got a hot date to the Indians’ game on 4/30, and she thought I was stepping out on the DH.  I had to explain that I was taking another friend since the DH will be MIA for work.

Hot Guy Pic:  Did you know this one was coming?

The window seat rocks.  It rocks on a plane (especially if you’re behind the wing and get to watch the flaps, etc., work), and it rocks at work.  Well, at least it does on the 10th floor.  I think, maybe, on the 1st floor, it might be annoying as all the people walk by.  But then, I’d have more fun stuff to comment (read: snark) on!

Anyway, the snow is falling fast and furious, but from here, it looks like it’s drifting down gently.  If the wind lets up a little, the flakes nearest the building dance along the glass before being pulled away by the resurgence of the breeze.  We’re supposed to get several more inches through the overnight.

What is it that we need when it’s cold and snowy?  That’s right – hotties!  Check out what could warm you right up after the jump…

Or just plain disasterous for the Packers?  I think it’s both.  I said I’d be okay with whoever won, and I am…overall.  I just hate seeing the Packers play like it doesn’t matter; or as PackerAaron says “It’s really hard to watch a Packers team that has no heart.”  Sigh.

Anyway, I’m pretty excited for the upcoming weekend.  I have a busy day tomorrow, but I think it will get me in gear.  Today has been totally and inexplicably hellish at work, and now I just don’t want to do anything.  What does this girl do when she doesn’t want to work??  Check out sports stuff, of course!

  • The Pittsburgh Pirates must have the oddest organization in the league.  The As had the whole “MoneyBall” idea, but the Pirates are going a different direction by signing two guys out of India that participated in a baseball-related reality show.  Totally random, I know.
  • College basketball is underway, and since the college team I care about for football has met this season’s demise already, I’m going to start paying attention to that.  Oh, and the BCS sucks.
    • Pur-don’t is sitting at #10 in MSN’s power rankings currently.  Really?
    • Worse: Sparty is sitting at #5.
    • IU lost to Notre Dame (chuckle, snort).  No wonder the folks around here are so quiet about basketball right now.
  • Oh How I Hate Ohio State – I didn’t need a news story to tell me that.
  • DId I mention that the BCS sucks?
  • I wonder how many Titans fans will be at the game on Thursday with us?  I’m wearing something noncommittal, since I care not about either team.
  • Hottie Sportswriter Michael Silver writes this in his 32 Questions:”32. Detroit Lions: If you insist upon watching all four quarters of their game against the Titans on Thursday, how much do you hate talking to your in-laws?”  My answer is that I don’t hate my in-laws, but they’re not even doing anything until after the game is over anyway! ;-)
  • The Minnesota Twins are sporting some throwback jerseys this coming season, but only on Saturdays at the Met-ro-d(r)ome.  Glen Perkins said it’s a nice break from the pinstripes.  He must not like ogling looking at Joe Mauer:
Mmmm...pinstripes AND eyeblack!

Mmmm...pinstripes AND eyeblack!

Now I have to attend a meeting.  I’m going there with thoughts of Hottie Joe Mauer to keep me entertained.  Here’s another picture of him for you – the Not-So-Random Hot Guy Pic:

It’s odd what being a sports fan does to a person.  I get all happy when one team loses (because I don’t like them), but all sad when another team loses (because I do like them).  It’s a terrible karmatic position to be in, but it’s what a sports fan’s gotta do.

Yes, I made up “karmatic”, but you totally get what I mean.

The Colts lost in the last few seconds to the Jaguars.  Halle-freaking-lujah!  I thought fo’ sho’ that Jacksonville was going to choke after that last ditch effort by the Dolts – I mean, Clots – no! Colts.  Ah, but the Shaguars pulled out a field goal at the 5 second mark.  Scobee’s attempt looked like it was going to go wide right, but it somehow pulled back in between the uprights and there was nothing that the home team could do.  This morning on my way into work, I think I heard every excuse:  the roof wasn’t open on the stadium, there were missed/bad calls from the refs, and there were missed tackles.  It’s still too expensive to talk about the interceptions thrown by Horseface Manning.

That was the loss I was happy about.  Now, the one I was sad about.  The Packers lost to a better Dallas.  There’s no bones about it, the Cowboys D-line was just too much for the Packers’ offense.  Aaron Rodgers is still my hero – he’s still doing pretty well in the face of all the crap that gets tossed at him, including five sacks yesterday.  I imagine this week will hold a lot of tape review and a lot of repetitious drills to get that nasty taste out of their mouths.

Other football stuffs – both the Pats and the Saints lost.  At least the Saints lost to a decent team (the Broncos) and the score was close, even if the level of play was not.  The Pats, however, should be ashamed for the way the entire team played yesterday.  You just got spanked by almost the worst team in the league at home.  Yikes.  I want to look for pictures of Hottie Tom Brady from yesterday, but I’m sure he’s just shaking his head in anger, disappointment, and disbelief…sorta like the rest of us.

Let’s see: The Cubs clinched their division.  The White Sox have to win over the Twins in Minneapolis to give themselves some breathing room.  A sweep would clinch, I think, but if the sweep doesn’t happen, we’ve got to face the Indians to get that division title.  I heart Joe Mauer, but I hope the Twins fall mightily to my ChiSox.

Sorry, gorgeous, but I want your team to lose.

Sorry, gorgeous, but I want your team to lose.

Non-sports stuff:

The client visit with Really Fucking Annoying Chick wasn’t too bad, really.  We managed to keep her out of the conversation most of the time, so there was very little one-upping and self-righteousness that we had to deal with.  The client was awesome and really accomodating to us, and two of the three of us were very appreciative.  I’ll bet you can guess which two.

Let’s wrap this up:

Good:  The Colts lost.  If I watch the ChiSox games, I get to see Hottie Joe Mauer.  I lost five pounds!

Bad: I’ve moved my desk at work for “flow” purposes, I guess, and my new across-the-aisle neighbor is more than a little odd.  She seems nice enough, but I’m going to have to figure out how to end conversations gracefully with her.  Staring blankly seems sort of rude.

Ugly:  We are still hanging on with one income in my house.  A recent change of luck might be a good sign, but I’m so jaded on this now, I’m unable to think positively without the darkness nagging at me.  That’s ugly.

Funny:  I was reading Michael Silver’s article on Al Davis today, and I could not help but think of the Emperor from Star Wars, and this was before I saw the picture.  After seeing the picture, I heard the theme music for the Empire in my head and I couldn’t help but laugh.  I think I’m beyond twisted, but see for yourself:
