I sort of got myself into a little trouble yesterday in a meeting. In a rare moment of complete idiocy, I told the chief (not my boss, but her boss) to move on with a topic. Yeah, certainly not the smartest thing I’ve ever done. It was more borne out of utter frustration than anything: the dude goes over how we’re all behind in our work in nine different ways, all the time clogging up my schedule so I can’t go get my work done. I apologized for the disruption afterward, and I got a scolding, but I think things are okay now. They let me come into work and log into the computer system, so I don’t guess I’m being escorted out.
Onto more of a happy place, where my ChiSox defeated the Halos last night with a walk-off single by Scotty Po-po. Can we please get rid of Contreras? Pretty please? Erratic is a nice way to describe the guy, really. Fortunately for him and the Sox, Carrasco was in decent form, and the bats were able to come out for run support. Sheesh. Tonight Gavin Floyd starts the show…here’s hoping for another win at the Cell.
I wonder how difficult it is for a baseball player – or any athlete, for that matter – to sit out the vast majority of a game only to be called on once (to pinch hit) to perform? I know that most would say that they’re always ready, always prepared, but I know that time away from actual play can make a guy rusty. So what’s a (mega-hot) guy to do when all he’s used for is a pinch-hitter? Yeah, the truth apparently is that he usually sucks it up royally, grounding out in the 7th every freaking time, and then popping out when he actually gets to be a position player for one random game. Damn it, Matt.
Gotta wrap this up. After my outburst yesterday, I’m trying to appear as studious as possible. Hot Guy Pic? Yes!

There will be no sweeping, damn it. I’ll still take 3 of 4 from the Spankees ANY TIME. Who said Melky could hit for the cycle in our park anyway? Hmph.
Additional good news is an additional pitcher who has some skills: ladies & germs, put your hands together for Mr. Jake Peavy! Yeah, you know, the one who used his no-trade clause in May to stay in SD because, well, they weren’t sucking and the ChiSox kinda were? Yeah, that’s the guy. He’s still on the DL with an ankle tendon injury, but we’ll rehab him up right. The Sox lost Clayton Richard in the trade (and I love him almost solely because he’s a Michigan man), so that sucks, but I knew no one would take Colon. Hell, we don’t even really want him, but we still have him hanging around somewhere. Waivers? Yes! Let’s put him out unconditionally on waivers! We’re already scrambling to cover starts with Richard gone and Peavy on the DL, why not?
White Sox goodness combined with Twins and Tigers suckitude pulled us within 1.5 games of the division lead, and 1.5 games ahead of the Twinkies. It also keeps us above the .500 mark, although just barely. The upcoming series at home against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will be an interesting one, since the Angels have twice owned the Twins in series recently. It would be nice to keep above .500, wouldn’t it?
So, in other baseball goodness, Super Hottie Matt Kata is still playing big leaguer with the Astros. I’m hoping he hangs in there until the roster expansion and then gets to play a bit into the post-season. He does play for the Astros, so I’m not holding my breath on that post-season bit. But, there’s always hope, right?
I am pretty sure that the month of July just didn’t happen because it’s already August. NFL preseason games start in 10 days. Speaking of that, I really need to get cracking on those KC/Dallas game tickets. Otherwise, that will be an uneventful anniversary weekend in Kansas City for us…and kind of a wasted trip.
As always, work calls. In anticipation of the upcoming wonder that is football season, here’s your Hot Guy Pic:

I made a post yesterday and was all set to publish it.
And then I decided against it.
It was a big rant and rave about the DHs father and pretty much how I think he’s the biggest slimeball on the face of the planet. I don’t think that needs to be publicly aired at this time – I don’t know who exactly is reading this blog…
Anyway! On a happier set of topics, maybe, as there’s interesting stuff afoot in the sports world.

The All-Star break. It is upon us in both the Major League and in AAA baseball. This means basically no sports at this particular time. Oh, sure, there’s probably golf or something, but nothing I really want to watch.
I suppose I can’t complain too loudly…I want a week (or two) off every year, so probably most people do, including professional baseball players not chosen to participate in the All-Star events.
Let’s see: Hottie Joe Mauer was eliminated in the first round of the Home Run Derby last night. Prince Fielder won. I wonder how much of his power is associated with the interia from swinging that belly around? I’m not sayin’, I’m just sayin’.
The White Sox slid into the week-long snoozefest with a loss to the Twinkerbells…this leaves us at 3 1/2 games back and those Twinkies a mere 4 games back from the Tiggers. At this point, I’m happy that we’re above .500, even if it’s just barely.
The dancing days are over in Houston and in the Cube’o'Doom. Matt Kata, with his wretched batting average has been sent down to Round Rock as the Astros claim C/UTIL Chris Coste off of waivers. I’m terribly sorry, and as much as I love-love-love Matt, batting a .182 isn’t going to take you places, regardless of those relatively clutch hits making up the .182. It’s probably bittersweet for him: his family (wife and twin baby boys) are in Round Rock, but there’s nothing like that big league play time. Not that I wish harm on anyone, but maybe someone will have an injury (at the All-Star festivities??) and they’ll call my man Matt back up so he can try to improve.
I had a great weekend, even though I was completely drenched for most of Saturday. I went to a handgun shooting class and it opened up and poured on us! The instructors were watching the weather (sorta) and kept saying that it was going to lighten up, but it never did. There is very little worse than wet jeans, but the acrid smell of the gunpowder and the full-on bulls-eye I hit with my first shot might have made it all worthwhile. Now it’s time to move past the 100-level class…perhaps the sun will shine on the 200.
Back to work, but for you and I to enjoy – my favorite All-Star:

First, let me just say that I did not watch Game 7. I am glad that I didn’t. In fact, I haven’t even read a recap of it for it would make me far too sad. That said, congratulations to the Pittsburgh Penguins. In the words (and accent!) of Sean Connery, you were a most worthy adversary…and it was probably well-deserved. But I refuse to go find out. Hell, I’m not even going to find out who won the Conn Smythe – yes I am, wait…well, at least it’s not Sidney.
In good news, the Chicago White Sox have won the last two of their series with the Brewers. The Milwaukee boys have been good on the DL lately, so it’s nice to take a few games here and there. And, while he’s not attractive to me whatsoever, I love A.J. Pierzynski. His attitude problem and my attitude problem are similar…maybe we’re related. Cooler yet, Mark Buehrle smacked his first professional HR. BUT (there’s always one of those), the ChiSox are 4.5 games back from the Tiggers, and 1.5 games behind the Twinkerbells…it’s the middle of June. Shouldn’t we be playing some good ball (consistently) by now?
The Indianapolis Indians are 3.0 games behind the Louisville Bats, but are getting closer to that elusive .500 mark. If they get to that threshold, it will be the first time they’ve had a winning season since I’ve been following them. What an accomplishment!
Super Hottie Matt Kata is still on the active roster for the Astros, making this Angel quite happy for him. He seems to be getting into the groove, finally climbing out of the batting average cellar and, of course, doing a fine job at defense. I told my crazy friend that we’re going to CIN if he’s still playing with the Astros. As the saying on the Ladies… goes, it’s not stalking if you bought a ticket!
In non-sports things, I had a great weekend with some friends. I was on the lookout for a replacement for El Quattro…there was one who was close, but, alas, it was not to be. The DH and I have a long weekend with other friends coming up, and I am only partially looking forward to the trip. It will be nice to get away, but this trip is with 6 other adults and their 6 children. In one house. And it looks like it might rain all day Sunday. I’ll try to stay positive though: we’re bringing lots of alcohol, and I love all the guys – just not necessarily their wives.
And now, I should go do work. Or take my lunch. Work is totally overrated today anyway.

That’s what the DH says about me as I check, for the fifth time, the box for the Astros-Cubs game. Matt was playing 2B. I had to know how he did. So I’m ate up.
He kinda sucked, btw. I still heart him.

I know, it's from last year; sue me. (Photo: Me, so don't steal it, bishes)
Short post now – longer post later. I have training to attend. Good times, yo.

That, my friends, is what I have to work on today. Not that this is much of a change from every other day, but sometimes I do have important projects. Like last week, for example. However, I completed all of those and now I am stuck with the mindless stuff.
Anyway, that gives me more time and incentive to do stuff like blog and research law schools. You know, goof off.
Interesting tidbit before I get to your regular dose of sports and me drooling over hot athletes: I found the Overrated List blog sort of by accident. I thought it was pretty cool that you could submit your own, so I did. Mine went up yesterday. Good site, Andrew.
Back to your anticipated programming: sports!
- I am trying to keep my excitement under wraps for Game 6 tonight between the Wings and Pens. It’s back at Mellon (the Igloo), and the Wings are ahead in the series 3-2 after an awesome Game 5 at the Joe. The DH doesn’t want to watch the game for fear that he’ll jinx it. I’d like to watch it so I can yell at the TV a lot. Part of me wants the Wings to win it just to get it done, but the other part wants it to come back to the D for Game 7 madness…Go Wings!
- I am also trying to stay positive for Matt Kata – the word on the web is that Kaz Matsui will be back with the Astros against the Cubs tonight. The Astros bought Matt’s contract from Round Rock when Matsui went on the DL…I’m hoping only good things for him now that Kaz is back.
- Once again, the former Indy Indian I like to call “Pornstache”, Josh Wilson, was called on to pitch in a Major league game. He didn’t fare as well for the Padres as he did for the Diamondbacks, but…at least he’s playing in the bigs, right?
I should get back to the mindless drivel since I’m supposed to have it done today. Before I go, I leave you with this Hot Guy:

If he were pitching in Houston today, I'd be able to watch for double-hottie pleasure. Instead, he's rehabbing with the AAA Iowa Cubs. Poor fragile thing. (Photo: Getty Images via SI.com)

At the risk of sounding seriously mentally ill (or something like that), my #1 Super Hottie, Matt Kata, has been on my mind. Not obsessively so, but he just came to mind a few days ago, and I haven’t been able to clear him out since. Thinking that I could cure this by checking up on him (hey, it works to get rid of a song stuck in my head), I dutifully head to the home page of the Round Rock Express.
He’s not there.
WTF?, I say. I check the News portion (which SUCKS, btw). Nothing. I check the transactions. Nada. Now, curiosity has the best of me, and I click over to the Astros’ page. The Express are the AAA team for the Astros, and Alyson (one of their bloggers) has been known to have a good nugget or two of information on the minor leaguers. Before I get to Alyson’s blog, I see the headline in the column: “Versatile Kata back in the bigs“.
There’s nearly a happy dance in the Cube’o'Doom!
The article says that Matt was called up to fill in at 2B for an injured Kazuo Matsui. For now, Matsui’s on the 15-day DL. That means, for about 15 days, Matt will be living that dream of playing in the Major Leagues.

I think we have the official Printer’O'Doom in our department’s area. Since it’s located just outside the Cube’O'Doom, it should be expected, I suppose, but this thing gets louder and clunkier every day. It’s left over from the previous group that resided in these cubes, and I think they left it on purpose. Oddly enough, it works okay, but it is SO LOUD I can hear it plainly over my headphones. I think we may have to shoot it.
Ah, let’s see…it is beautiful outside, and this may be the drawback to sitting by the windows. I want to be out there instead of in here, and so does everyone else. I can’t speak for everyone, but very little has gotten done in the Cube’O'Doom today because people keep trekking over to gaze longingly outside. There is seriously not a cloud in sight.
The Indianapolis Indians actually have won two in a row now, holding leads built over Toledo in some high-scoring games. They move on to Columbus for a 4-game stint before coming back home. Perhaps a groove has been located? I’ll not hold my breath.
In related news, the Indians advertise in some of the mailings that go to every home in the area – this magazine happens to have coupons and ads for local places. I go through these because I am a coupon queen, and, after last night, I’m glad that I do. The Indians’ ad in this one consisted of an action shot of none other than Super Hottie Matt Kata. I know, he doesn’t play for us anymore, but most people wouldn’t know that. In fact, most people wouldn’t be able to tell you who it is other than “an Indians player”. Fortunately, the #6 is shown on his jersey, and, because I ogled him all last season, I know the man when I see him.

It's not quite the photo from the ad, but it's still him, and he's still hot. (Photo: Bill Gentry via www.indyindians.com)

from the gods. It’s currently raining, and it’s supposed to all day today and most of the day tomorrow. These cloud-delivered tears are for many things: the team, friends, and family of Nick Adenhart; the super crappy Opening Night loss plus two more for the Indianapolis Indians; and the fact that this week just might suck. That last one is preemptive, not delayed, but you get my point.
It was a SU-UCK for Opening Night. We met all the players in the roster introductions…14 new guys to get to know over the summer. This first game was not a good first impression. However, there are at least two – yes, two – possibly ogleworthy guys on the team. None match the eye-searing hotness of Matt Kata, but a girl’s gotta have something to watch when the game’s gone to shit. I’ll, uh, let you know what develops from future ogling.
After the opening triples for the Tribe, shit is the exact place the game went…pitching was not so great, as usual, and the batting wasn’t hot either – well, after those first two triples, I guess.
I’m just guessing, but the guys weren’t really into it on Thursday night anyway. I saw/heard Steve Pearce tell his mom (I think that’s who that was) that he was “real excited” for another season of Indians baseball. If you can’t read the level of dripping sarcasm in that, you should have seen the way he tried to play it off when another nearby fan called him on it. Bad, bad, bad. Neil Walker – someone who should be just kicking ass to try and get into the majors – was a total slacker on the defense at third, letting at least two hits get by him, prompting me to use some lines from Major League (“none of this ‘ole’ bullshit” for one) in his direction. It’s a bad thing when you want to heckle your own team.
In other unpleasant news, Adam Boeve wasn’t a part of the Opening Night roster. It appears that he has been released and is an unsigned free agent floating about in the MiLB system. Here’s hoping he finds a good home.
Last but not least, Super Hottie Matt Kata is not faring so well either, with a .111 AVG. Granted, this is after four whole games, and he was only a pinch hitter in one, but, still. I’m impatient and want to see results, damn it!
While I don’t want anyone to be injured, the Astros have a tendency toward them, and, if Matt does well in Round Rock, he could be called up. I’m not holding my breath, but it could happen. Yeah, it could happen.
The rain is pelting the windows here at the Cube’O'Doom, so I guess I’ll try and do some work. Here’s a ray of sun-like hotness for you, if nothing else but to brighten the day:

It's sunny in Arizona, no?
