I may have mentioned it before, and I’ll be surely saying it again, but my husband is the awesome-est. He calls me this morning from his office to see if I would be interested in trading going to one NFL game this year (furthering The Quest) for going to the Big House for a game and to see all the renovations they’ve made. It’s been a few years since we’vegone to a Michigan game, so I’m cool with it. We’ll be playing the Eastern Emus – yes, I know they’re supposedly the Eagles, but if they aren’t the Hurons anymore, they’re the freaking EMUS to me – so I’ll anticipate a fun and full game. I can almost taste the Dominos pepperoni pizza now…
We are still looking for some (relatively cheap) tickets to the Chiefs-Cowboys game in October, so if you know of any, let me know. I’ve been checking Craigslist and eBay, but tickets don’t actually come out until next month, so there’s not a LOT of activity. This is simply to go see a game at Arrowhead as part of The Quest, so I’m not too concerned about seat location. Unfortunately, the KC fans still love their team and everyone wants to see Dallas play (for whatever reason), so it’s been hard snagging those on a good deal.
In baseball stuffs, the ChiSox lost the series opener against the (thankfully) Manny-free Dodgers. The Oz-Man got ejected in the 8th for arguing pitch calls and called the ump out on his “weak” ejection:
“That’s the weakest ejection I’ve ever had,” Guillen said. “I asked where the pitch was, he didn’t like my question and he kicked me out of the game. He big-leagued me. I’m not going to say much because it might cost me one day without pay and one day without my ballclub.”
I love that guy.
Gotta get back to that thing called “work”, so here’s your Hot Guy Pic:

Schadenfreude (n) – satisfaction or pleasure felt at someone else’s misfortune

Yeah, that's right. (Photo: Chicago Tribune)
Boy, do I love it when the Packers win. It’s even better when it’s a big win, and it’s almost the tops when it’s a big win against the Bears. Because we all know, the Bears Still Suck.
Not a terrible weekend – I survived the onslaught of small children and near-constant talk about those children. I did have a good quip that the tornado must have picked up the Wicked Witch and dropped her right in the middle of MunchkinLand. All in all, it wasn’t awful. I just didn’t have a lot of fun.
College Football: Michigan showed that they still don’t have it all together by losing to Northwestern on Saturday – a game I couldn’t bear to watch. I’m just glad I was reasonable enough to think that last week’s drubbing of Minnesota was not much more than good luck at the right time. Perhaps a little favor from the Football Gods?
NFL: Pro football had my adopted hometown’s team winning one in Kansas City, the ViQueens losing to the Bucs, and, of course, my beloved Pack trampling the Bears 37-3.

Oh, we suck. (Photo: Chicago Tribune)
Of course, it can’t be all a bed of roses. The Dolts beat the Texans and have to head to San Diego next weekend to face the Chargers. I’ll be a Bolts fan for a day (Bolts vs Dolts is a great tagline, I think). The Yets beat the Patriots in OT. I still say that the Pats are the better team…the Yets are relatively healthy and it STILL took them 4 quarters plus OT to pull it out by a field goal. Had the coin toss in OT gone differently, it would probably be a different result on the scoreboard.
The Titans were able to manufacture a win against a Crohn’s-disease fighting David Garrard (is anyone else tired of seeing that ad?) to remain undefeated. 10 – 0. I’ll laugh my ass off if they get beaten by the Liedowns on Thanksgiving.
In odd football news, the Eggles and Bungles played to a tie. A tie? Of all goofy crap, it had to come from these two teams. The Eagles, despite being 5-4-1 on the season play worse (gasp!) than (eek!) Detroit. The Bengals, despite…oh, wait…they’re 1-8-1. Yeah, that’s about right, even with all the hype they got in the preseason. One to watch, huh? Yep.
MLB: In the big-money department, CC Sabathia has been offered $140M to play for the Yanks. Holy shit. 140 million dollars? And then this is what I read about it:
While the Yankees’ initial offer to Sabathia is significant, sources indicate that he almost certainly will not accept it.
Say what? Is he holding out for a contract worth the national debt? For the love of a divine being, $140 million is more money than I could spend. Maybe. If he doesn’t take it, who’s he waiting on? A Saudi prince?
The Braves are no longer going for Jake Peavy, but apparently the Yanks are scooping up free agents like they’ve got the dosh to do it, and Peavy’s being looked at. Does that mean that the Cubs aren’t going for him either? If the Yanks are willing to dish that kid of dough in the direction of players, other clubs won’t want to keep up with the Steinbrenners.
Nick Swisher was traded to New York, and the ChiSox also traded out Uribe. I know we’re looking for youth and speed here, Mr. Williams, but we need some good veteran leadership as well. Moving Alexi to SS might work out…he IS fast.
In other assorted stuff of interest, the Red Wings won, and my desire to be more into hockey this season has petered off. It’s hard when football takes so much effort to support and now I’m interested in the hot stove for baseball. I just gotta know where some of these guys go after all the trades are made!

In what might have been my worst NFL day ever, I cringed at the play of my favorite/favored teams. In fact, there are only two – yes, two – saving graces for my weekend as far as sports go:
1 – MICHIGAN FOOTBALL: Before Saturday, I was not so hopeful about this game. Well, before halftime, I was not so hopeful about this game (see how the game vs Penn St went down). Where’d this team come from? And who knew (not MGoBlog, and certainly not I) that Nick Sheridan would not suck on a major league level? Huh.
2 – NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS: They beat the Bills. I’m still sorta impressed by Matt Cassell. He’s no Tom Brady, but he’s not totally Hoovering this season either. This is the only professional team that I wanted to win that actually lived up to my expectations. No, seriously.
I guess there’s still Monday Night Football wherein the Arizona Cardinals take on the San Francisco 49ers. I’d call the Cards for the win, but with the way my picks went this weekend, I’m not saying anything.
Good: Michigan won! By a lot! The Pats won. I only have to work three days this week! Will Blackmon’s punt return in the Green Bay- Minnesota game (which was awesome, FWIW). The Green Bay secondary.
Bad: The Packers lost to the damned ViQueens, even after Gus Frerotte threw THREE interceptions/the Packers offense. Mason Crosby’s going to start getting the same punishment that Martin Grammatica was getting. The Steelers screwed around and fucked it up against the Clots. The Towels weren’t the only things terrible yesterday in that game. The Saints lost and I don’t want to talk any more about it.
Ugly: The Packers play the Bears next weekend. This makes me feel ill after the way we played this weekend. I want the Patriots to stuff the Yets on Thursday – in a big, bad, ugly way.
Funny: I got a good laugh from one of the annoying people here at work: He says, loudly, that he “hates” Ben Roethlisberger, and if he ever met him, he’d punch him in the face. Now, this guy is maybe 5′9″, 130 lbs, maybe. I asked over the cube wall if I heard him correctly. He said yes, and I laughed. I told him I’d like to see that one. He says (and I do quote) “He’s not that big”. I laughed again. I checked on NFL.com to make sure, but Big Ben is 6′5″ and 245 lbs. What a freaking moron. He then solidified his “moron” status by proudly declaring that he’s a Bengals fan.

Yes, that is how my beloved Packers fell, in OT, to the still-undefeated Tennessee Titans. That’s also how the Dolts managed to pull one out against the Patriots late last night. Oddly enough, I feel okay about being beaten in overtime by the Titans. They’re a really good team (as evidenced by how they can hold on to win over other good teams), and we made some mistakes that we’ll have to atone for. Ah, but the Dolts winning once again in a squeaker – that Adam Vinatieri better make some good money – that one kills me.
I know, it’s still a win for them, and the near-hapless Dolts are now 4-4. The same as my Pack. People around here can celebrate, but they should all do so just after thanking a benevloent being for the creation of Adam Vinatieri and his leg. The same could be said for the Titans and Rob Bironas’ leg, but I think there were more factors at play in that game than the Dolts/Pats matchup. We should have been able to seal the deal but couldn’t get it done. The Dolts seem to always make it on a wing and a prayer after some ridiculous crap on the field. I did hear that the roof on Lucas Oil was open last night (no precip expected, obvs), so maybe that helped.
My adopted hometown’s team was on bye this week, so no Saints news for ya, other than apparently, they had a heck of a time getting home from London. I don’t know what to say about this whole water-pill deal, so I won’t say anything. I guess maybe I don’t get it? Everyone knows that Reggie Bush is out from arthroscopic surgery and who the hell knows what is up with Jeremy Shockey.
I’m about to kick a field goal here at work to get some things in under deadline, just over the cross-bar probably, so I’m wrapping this up.
Good: Aaron Rodgers was signed to a contract extension by the Packers. I still think he rocks. Days off coming soon! I work well under pressure.
Bad: I’m a procrastinator; there, I’ve admitted it. I am having a hard time being excited about the DH’s new job…will it last this time? I’ve stopped talking about Michigan Football because it is so bad. Still a fan tho…just don’t wanna talk about it.
Ugly: Seriously, I’ve decided that working with a bunch of women is bad for me. All the nitpicking, catty, backstabbing, ridiculous behavior kills me. I’m better off with the guys.
Funny: I saw a guy in the mall wearing a t-shirt that said only “I’m not dead yet…” in white letters on a black background. I needed nothing else to spur me to say “I feel happy!” I crack myself up.

It was a crazy, hectic, and extremely fun weekend, and it all wrapped up with a great relaxing day off of work yesterday. Bank holidays are great.
Once again, I was busy all weekend and wasn’t able to watch my sports. I caught brief glimpses of some things hellish (losses for Michigan and for LSU) and some things great (the Rays beat the BoSox). Fortunately, the event that kept me busy included one fine hunk of a man. I have a certain weakness for tall guys with dark hair and blue eyes. The blue eyes are the big ticket…something about a beautiful pair of blue eyes wins my lust heart every time. This particular man had some crystal blue eyes that darkened to the pupil…oh, sigh…and he had dimples and a pretty nice ass. Hot Damn. If he were an athlete and wore eyeblack (other personal weaknesses), he might have been close to perfect.
It didn’t hurt that this guy was gracious, sweet, and funny. He took the flirting and overt ogling of a couple hundred women right in stride. The only things that kept him from being a flat-out lust object were a little bit of a belly and that damned little patch of hair right under his bottom lip. Facial hair is okay with me, but I like it if there’s some sort of committment to it. Having that little patch of wayward chin hair seems like you’d like to grow a beard, maybe, but you aren’t sure about it, so you’re going to do this test patch for a while. Puh-leeze. Grow it or don’t. My suggestion is shave the thing off. It’s not doing you any favors, and it might get in the way of the hot tongue-wrangling I’d like to do. My very funny friend N agreed, and we came up with this guy’s new nickname, El Quattro, because I was going to take my Lady Quattro and shave it off for him. We had a blast laughing all night Saturday about it…both before and after dinner and drinks.
I do have to say that my DH has taken to growing in sideburns, and I quite like it. It’s a good thing that he’s hot too, or I’d be in a bad way. Did I mention that he’s also tall, has dark hair, and has beautiful blue eyes?
Perhaps now is a good time to actually go do some work.
Good: Hot waiters and good friends to ogle them with. Sexy and understanding husbands. The Rays lead the BoSox in the LC currently. The Phillies lead the Dodgers. Can you tell who I want to win? The Packers won, beating Mike “I should have already retired” Holmgren and his Seahawks. The Saints blistered the Raiders.
Bad:Michigan lost to Toledo. The Pats lost – no, they were owned by the Chargers. LSU lost to Tim Tebow and the damned Gators.
Ugly: Washington lost unbelievably to the St. Louis Rams. Manny Ramirez – that dude is ugly with a capital UG. The jealousy I felt when N showed up in her dress for Saturday evening – skinny bitch.
Funny: The Dallas Cowboys lost to the…Arizona Cardinals?!?! WTF? Even better? The Giants lost on MNF to the Cleveland Browns. El Quattro!!

I feel like I’m saying that a lot about my favorite sports teams lately. The Indianapolis Indians? 68 – 76. The Chicago White Sox? Eliminated by a younger and faster team – the Rays – in the playoffs. Baseball is essentially done for me. I could watch the remainder, but who cares now?
Football isn’t totally lost yet, but: Michigan football? 2 – 3 with this weekend’s loss to the Illini. The Green Bay Packers? 2 – 3; tied with the ViQueens and worse than da Bears. The Saints of my future hometown? 2 – 3 and at the bottom of the NFC South. I’m trying not to whine and not to lose faith because there’s a lot of season to go. Being a good fan is hard work, especially if it ends with the phrase “Well, there’s always next year”. That’s when you start sounding like a Cubs fan.
I’ve been sick for a few days and, with my schedule not lightening up anytime soon, I might not recover quickly. That contributes to my whiny-assed-ness. My head hurts. My ears hurt. I’m tired. My throat is raw. I’m constantly wanting something to drink which leads to a near-constant need to go pee. This so sux.
To cut the whining to a minimum, I’ll end it on this:
Good: Having banked sick days at work and not feeling guilty to use them when needed. My DH who desperately wants to take care of me when I’m sickly.
Bad: It’s nuclear, Sarah Palin, not nukular!!!! For the love of a bloody god, it doesn’t make you sound “everyday” or “Joe Six-Pack” to say things wrong; it makes you sound like an idiot. You’re not pandering to the unwashed masses anymore. We’re a much more cynical and knowledgeable bunch (or so I hope).
Ugly: As approached by a co-worker this morning, the first thought in my head was Please go away. I have no tolerance for your particular brand of stupidity today. It sounded so clever that I tried looking it up to see if it might have been a movie quote or something. So far, it seems like an Archangel original. Maybe I should copyright it.
Funny: What it would have been if the Indianapolis Dolts lost to the winless Houston Texans…but, damn it, someone keeps looking out for this team. It’s sorta like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz.
"Curses! Curses! Somebody always helps that girl!"
And by girl, I mean Payton Manning.

I’m really tired of taking care of everyone else’s problems. Is it my fault that you got into a mortgage that you couldn’t pay? No! Is it my fault that the banks and other financial institutions were stupid and willing to give money out to people who couldn’t afford to pay it back? No! It’s almost like they were trying to be those asinine cash advance places that pop up in every freaking strip mall…their best bet was for people to be late with payment so they could charge a gazillion dollars in fees/penalties/interest…and then be bailed out by the government. It isn’t okay. I work at a steady job, pay my bills on time, and take care of my debts (the best I can – remember, only one income at this time), and I’m tired of paying for everyone else at the same time!! Damn it! Where’s MY fucking bailout??
The University of Michigan football team beat upsetembarrassed Wisconsin. At home. In front of a crowd that was booing them for three of the four quarters. Those guys came back from a 19-point deficit and a whole lot of mistakes to win, if only by a missed two-point effort from the Badgers. Oh, I almost forgot – the Badgers were highly ranked. I think Mitch Albom is right, for now, you’ll never know what Michigan football team will be on the field…but you should know that I’ll be rooting for them. Go Blue!
Upsets ran rampant this weekend in both college football. Too bad I wasn’t able to watch any games, and I can’t watch MNF tonight either. This is getting ridiculous. Important to me – Florida LOST. USC LOST. Georgia LOST to Alabama (or, conversely, The Tide rolled all over the Bulldogs), and we have already discussed the Wolverine victory over the Badgers.
The Saints won (yay!).
The Packers lost (boo!).
The Cowboys lost to the Redskins (whoa).
I have to address the ongoing comparison between Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers. Yes, this weekend, Brett threw for a career-high six touchdowns. Awesome. Also this weekend, Aaron had a tough time and got hurt. Not so good. But let’s think back a mere week and see where Brett was hobbled with an ankle injury and the Yets lost – no, got smeared – by the Chargers, and everyone was wondering if he should’ve really just left it hung up. Last week, Aaron was being lauded. This week, everyone’s making that face and saying “I told you so” to Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy. What the fuck ever. This week, the Yets defeated who? Oh, the CARDINALS. Whoop de freaking do. The Packers lost to Tampa Bay, inclusive of a kicker that my heart goes right out to. It’s not that I want to lose, and I don’t want to minimize everyone else’s gains, but seriously. Can we have a LITTLE objectivity??
The Chicago White Sox have forced the Tigers to make up a game. I think that might piss them off enough that they may want to try and knock my team out of the running. That game is set to start soon – provided it isn’t raining in Chicago.
Hockey’s back on, and the Red Wings aren’t doing too bad. I’m almost afraid to type that for fear of jinxing the whole damn season.
Anyway…
Good: Weekends with friends – good times and good laughs.
Bad: This damned bulging disc is making my arm hurt again and I hate that home therapy contraption!!
Ugly: I’m tired and cranky! There is a scratch all the way down the side of my car. I didn’t do it and it pisses me off.
Funny: Seen on a sign yesterday – “Pregnancy Exop” – for the weekend. Is that pregnancy after surgery or just expo spelled wrong out in plain sight? People are stupid creatures.

I haven’t been able to get on here in forever, it seems. I’ve had some great times in these last few days, and some sad ones. I’ll try to keep this concise.
I love it when friends come to visit. I had the best time this long weekend with my pals – and I hated for it to end. It’s so true that friends are the family that one chooses for themselves. I have chosen well with these. Love you guys! By the way, SD, if you ever see this, you are quite possibly the greatest “sistah” ever! You’re wicked good.
Gotta talk some sports:
A-Rod is still leading the Packers on to victory, even after the team freaking blows a lead to the Lie-Downs! Since you already know that I’m a Maize & Blue girl, you should also know that I heart Charles Woodson. The man played with a broken toe and kicked ass. Sigh. Football fan love is a wonderful thing. Go Pack Go!
Matt Cassell is doing very well at leading the Patriots in Hottie Tom Brady’s absence. Nah, Matt Cassell’s not super hot IMO, but I think he’s doing well. It should also be noted that the Patriots’ leadership crew has made some wise adjustments to keep their team going at a winning pace.
The ChiSox are still in first, and I have been watching the BoSox and Rays bounce the lead back and forth lately. The aforementioned “sistah” loves her some BoSox…but she lets me love my Sox and I let her love her Sox, all in peace. That is, until it comes down to something serious.
I have to say that I feel bad for Vince Young. It cannot be easy to come into professional football and not be as good as you thought you were. It’s disappointing that he’s not learning how to roll with it yet, and I wonder if he will, or if he’ll just quit. I hope he toughens that skin – there are people ready to boo you wherever you go, whether you’re a pro athlete or not.
For the last few:
Good: The visit with my friends. ChiSox still leading the division. Short weeks at work.
Bad: The Colts won (but they beat the ViQueens – I didn’t know what do about it). My friends had to go home (boo!). Michigan lost to Notre Lame – and it was ugly too, but I’ve got something else to put in that slot.
Ugly: So, as part of my job, I’m required to visit “customer” sites and check things out. Okay, no problem. Except this time, on Friday, I have to share the visit with the Really Fucking Annoying Chick from work. Did I mention it was THREE HOURS to the site? At least there will be someone else there, and he’s cool as hell (and sort of hot).
Funny: Friday is International Talk Like A Pirate Day, and my pirate name is Captain Ethel Vane. Wicked bad. Avast me hearties, and be checkin’ out the official site for the merriment and mayhem: http://www.talklikeapirate.com/. Be sure to check out the pick up lines. One that would probably work is “Prepare to be boarded, me buxom beauty!” Arr!

I have only a few minutes before I am dragged away to my “special” project. Oh, it’s special all right…Anyway, a quick amount of random craziness before I have to go:
Aaron Rodgers is my hero. I love him. And he’s even kinda cute in his ballcap. Not so much in a helmet. A-Rod led my Packers to a victory over the ViQueens last night in MNF. I am sad that I missed his Lambeau Leap – be assured that I will be finding that on YouTube tonight.
I also need to thank Atari Bigby for dashing the hopes of that purple and gold team…what a beautiful interception. It’s too bad that I missed the majority of the game. Stupid meetings anyway.
I am extremely pleased that the Colts lost. It hurts so for me to root for the Bears (because they still suck), but a girl’s gotta do, you know?
It sux for Hottie Tom Brady that his season is over. However, I can’t get over how some people are talking about this – it’s like he died, not tore an ACL. I think it will be okay folks. I’m hoping that Matt Cassell can step up and rock right along with the rest of the outstanding Patriots (sorta like Tom Brady did when Drew Bledsoe got hurt…hmm…).
Michigan won this weekend. Yes, it was over Miami of Ohio, but it’s still a win. We’ll take it. Hopefully our very young team gets into a good groove with a solid win over Notre Dame…well, we can hope.
Here we go:
Good: The Pack wins! The ChiSox are still in first!
Bad: Is there a particular reason that we couldn’t get some interns to do this special project? I’ve got some big fish to fry that are getting all stinky on my desk.
Ugly: I’m finding it hard to keep up with baseball now that football has started, and there’s no Hottie Matt Kata around. Sniff.
Funny: So I can’t go to YouTube from here (stupid firewall), but you should go and take a look at the mini-tantrum that Tavaris Jackson threw after he was intercepted at the end of last night’s game. He was pissed, and even better was the cut-over shot to Aaron Rodgers celebrating and going to get his helmet for one more round on the field!

It was a long weekend, and man, did I need that. It also served to fill my head with a bunch of crap that I should get out. Let’s see if I can keep all of it together.
Sports:
- Baseball in Indy has come to a close. Sadly, it was not with a winning season, but the Indianapolis Indians did win the last game of their season. I was fortunate enough to have great seats at Saturday’s game (the last home game), but I was not fortunate enough to win one of the game-worn jerseys. Of course not, because I really wanted one and they were my favorites, the black jerseys.
- It seemed as if Super Hottie Matt Kata did not want the evening to end either: he hung around after everyone else on the team had gone to the lockerroom and signed autographs up and down the third-base line of seating. He made a lot of kids happy…and I didn’t mind watching from my seat either. Here’s hoping I have him to enjoy next season (219 days until the 2009 home opener). This will be the first year I pay attention to local baseball after the season ends.

I'll miss this...
- Hurricane Gustav (more about that below) brought the New Orleans Saints to Indy. They may be using (hwlech) Lucas Oil Stadium (urp) as a practice field until they can get back to the Superdome. I have adopted the Saints as my “other” team to support, mostly because I heart NOLA. I certainly wouldn’t mind running into Marques Colston while they’re here. Rawr.

- The Wolverines lost to Utah. It could have been worse. For a team that’s largely inexperienced with a brand spankin’ new coach and brand spankin’ new offense, it could have been a lot worse. It will be nice to watch the steady improvement that has to will come with time.
- The ChiSox lost, but so did the Cubs. No gloating in my house this weekend.
Events other than sports:
- Hurricane Gustav left my future hometown alone for the most part. I held my breath as the storm sped toward the city, and exhaled slowly as the levees held on tenuously. My heart goes to those just south and west of the city – they were the hardest hit when Gustav made landfall. While there was no update on the website, I also hope there was minimal damage to one of my favorite places in LA, Avery Island. What would I do without my Tabasco?
- Politics have never been my cup of tea. I don’t like how most politicians act, whether it’s pandering to their current and future supporters or bashing the other party/politicians. So, imagine my chagrin that the next three months (approx.) are going to be filled with political garbage infiltrating my world. Sigh.
- Is it ever okay to scream at another person just because they might be the most annoying person on the planet? There are people that I know that make my blood boil with how selfish and absolutely obnoxious they are…and it’s not uncommon that I have to see them on a semi-regular basis.
I’m tired. I did not sleep well or much on the eve of the day back to work. I’m grumpy, mostly because I’m tired. I wonder if they’ll miss me around here if I disappear for an hour or so?
Here we go:
Good: College football started, and regular season pro football is on its final approach. Gustav did not wipe out NOLA.
Bad: Tuesdays after a three-day weekend. These days are what awful Monday mornings aspire to be.
Ugly: Whoever said this bullshit: “Anybody that didn’t leave after Katrina is a moron”. This is quoted from a blog-style post on NewOrleansSaints.com, written by Saints staff member Doug Miller. Apparently, Mr. Miller is in Indianapolis with the team. As stated in the article, he heard this statement last night in a local restaurant. Mr. Miller, I’d like to apologize for the close-minded bastards that occupy parts of my current home. I would be willing to wager a large amount that anyone who has the audacity to say something so atrocious has never EVER been to New Orleans. I am sorry that you and the team have had to endure another brush with (potential) disaster, are missing your homes and your families, and have to deal with people like this all the time.
Funny: I have friends that are willing to go to extreme lengths to make my day. I’m glad I have such crazy friends!
