Blown out of the water March 31, 2009

Let me just say…this year’s March Madness is and was just that – madness.  Who would have thought that Sparty would have knocked off a cocky L’ville?  And, while I had Villanova pulling out one upset, I did not see them beating Pitt.  Truth be told, I didn’t see anyone beating Pitt.  Oh well.  That bracket has already been introduced to the recycle bin after being blown out of the water this weekend.

Feeling positive March 27, 2009

It is my goal today to think positively.  I think that I really enjoy pissing and moaning about stuff a bit too much, so that’s all I do.  Okay, not all, but I do it a lot.  In the spirit of that realization (an epiphany? not so much), I will strive to be positive today!

I started this morning getting out of bed late.  Positively thinking, of course, I got that few extra minutes of much-desired sleep.  It was lovely.  I also spent a few extra minutes in the shower this morning, and it was refreshing.  Traffic, while mostly incorporated of the usual suspects, was not too heavy and I was only five minutes late to my desk.  I’d like to thank all of the folks who have taken today off to go to the NCAA games in town or to start Spring Break a little early.  You made it a hell of a lot easier to get into work this morning. :)

I checked my bracket after last night’s round.  I’m out in the Midwest and have been since the second round, so no news there.  The West played and I am 50% in this round, with Mizzou knocking out Memphis.  My East bracket is still going well – I have both teams right (that’s right, I called the ‘nova game right, bitches!).  The South plays this weekend, and I have UNC and Syracuse heading on the the Elite 8.  We’ll see on Monday how I did.  Here’s my Final Four predictions:

MidwestWake Forest I’m already out here.  Damn it.

West – UConn

East – Pitt

South – Syracuse

I see UConn and Pitt in the Championship game with Pitt coming out on top.  Here’s to being positive!

Feeling quite accomplished at work, I have completed stages of three projects in the past two days.  Today, I am positive that I will try to continue that path, with only a half day used on ogling hot athletes.   For a good one today, go check out the Ladies…

Also on the accomplishment trail, the DH and I finished up with our second 8-week circuit in the gym.  We go tonight to learn our new one.  It’s getting (slowly) to the point where we can see differences.  Not so much in ourselves, but we can see them in each other.  The other telling factors: I don’t feel winded going up two flights of stairs here at work, and I had to go down a size when buying shirts last weekend.  It’s a nice feeling.

Feeling positive and good about myself improves my outlook on others…well, mostly it just makes me more confident whilst ogling guys.  So, let’s hop to that for the close, shall we?  My current top five in pics:

There’s no other way to explain the things this morning.  It’s just a Monday.  I’m not really griping – it just seems like stuff didn’t fall well together this morning, so someone (or something) must be blamed.

  • After a long and busy weekend, we made it back home late last night.  This means no grocery shopping, so it was up to leftovers for lunch today.  Well, I promptly left mine at home this morning on the ay out the door, so I guess I’ll be going out for lunch today.  Perhaps that was a little subconscious – I wasn’t looking forward to the leftovers anyway.
  • I run late to work, not terribly late, but 10 minutes late.  I’ll just make it up this afternoon.  No big deal.
  • I had an eye doctor appointment on Friday.  No big deal there, either, except I needed to get new lenses.  “No problem,” I say, knowing that I have a spare pair at home that are close enough to get me through the week.  Yep.  Left those at home too.  So, I have no glasses to read with today, so I’ll be expecting that eyestrain headache sometime around noon.
  • I was sort of excited to check my bracket this morning…I knew that tO$U has lost to Siena, so I was cool for checking out how I did.  UNTIL I SEE THAT WAKE FOREST BLEW IT AGAINST FREAKING CLEVELAND STATE (who also beat Butler in Horizon League Championship, btw) AND FUCKED IT ALL UP FOR ME!!  Okay, so it’s not that bad nor is it that big of a deal (I don’t put money on these things for a reason), but come on!  Here’s my bracket stats so far:
    • Midwest – 5 of 8 for the first round winners; 2 of 4 for the second round.  The losses of Wake and WVU knock me out in the Midwest from here on out.
    • West – 8 of 8 (woo!) for first round winners; 2 of 4 for second round.  I’m not out of this one yet.
    • East – Rockin’ the casbah with 6 of 8 in the first round and 3 of 4 in the second.  WTF with Xavier??
    • South – 5 of 8 for first rounders; 4 of freakin’ 4 for second rounders.  Not too bad here either.  It is too bad that both Butler and Michigan are out, but I predicted those by this point.

I have a pile of work on my desk that has just gotten bigger, so I should get to that.  To tide you (and me) over and to bring a smile to your face, here’s a hot piece of luscious man candy:

watch the basketball games and still get work done today?  Well, if you’re a lucky sucker like the DH, you can work from home: chillin’ on the couch in front of the TV with the laptop – yep – on your lap.  All you have to do is fend off the Pet’O'Doom (he likes to lay on your most important papers or on the laptop in your lap)…and not ignore your boss when he IMs you during free throws.

Unfortunately, I am not that lucky.  I have to be at work today, so I’m looking to devise a strategy.  Worse yet, we have a meeting at 2:30, which should be the end of the Butler/LSU game this afternoon.  Damn!  That means I can try to snag a feed for the first half+ and then force the DH to text me updates so I can keep up during the presentation.  It seems to be the logical way to go about it.  Now about finding that feed that isn’t blocked at work…

Since I’ve already posted my first round picks, I’ll go ahead and post my second-round winners.  I will be in The Mitten all weekend, and will most likely be unable to watch the games or post here.  So Monday will have to be a recap on how I did and the predictors for the end of next week.

Second Round:

Midwest

  • Louisville
  • Wake Forest
  • WVU
  • MSU (Sparty NO!!)

West

  • UConn
  • Washington
  • Marquette
  • Memphis

East

  • Pitt
  • FSU
  • ‘Nova
  • Duke

South

  • UNC
  • Gonzaga
  • Syracuse
  • Oklahoma

for defeating Ohio State last night in the Fiesta Bowl.  I couldn’t stand to watch after halftime, but I guess that’s the part I should have watched.  While it matters not who beats Ohio State, I think the better team overall won out on this one.

All the talk about Colt McCoy is at least two-thirds true.  He’s an offensive machine, and I am sure that he’ll do well in the NFL…after a couple years’ worth of riding the pine.  From what I’ve read, that won’t make him happy, but you gotta do what you gotta do.  You know about my weakness for quarterbacks, so you also know I had to check out some photos…and since I’m busy with stuff today, here’s what I have for your visual delight:

Not so good from the front, but you can count on those white pants for a good view!

Or just plain disasterous for the Packers?  I think it’s both.  I said I’d be okay with whoever won, and I am…overall.  I just hate seeing the Packers play like it doesn’t matter; or as PackerAaron says “It’s really hard to watch a Packers team that has no heart.”  Sigh.

Anyway, I’m pretty excited for the upcoming weekend.  I have a busy day tomorrow, but I think it will get me in gear.  Today has been totally and inexplicably hellish at work, and now I just don’t want to do anything.  What does this girl do when she doesn’t want to work??  Check out sports stuff, of course!

  • The Pittsburgh Pirates must have the oddest organization in the league.  The As had the whole “MoneyBall” idea, but the Pirates are going a different direction by signing two guys out of India that participated in a baseball-related reality show.  Totally random, I know.
  • College basketball is underway, and since the college team I care about for football has met this season’s demise already, I’m going to start paying attention to that.  Oh, and the BCS sucks.
    • Pur-don’t is sitting at #10 in MSN’s power rankings currently.  Really?
    • Worse: Sparty is sitting at #5.
    • IU lost to Notre Dame (chuckle, snort).  No wonder the folks around here are so quiet about basketball right now.
  • Oh How I Hate Ohio State – I didn’t need a news story to tell me that.
  • DId I mention that the BCS sucks?
  • I wonder how many Titans fans will be at the game on Thursday with us?  I’m wearing something noncommittal, since I care not about either team.
  • Hottie Sportswriter Michael Silver writes this in his 32 Questions:”32. Detroit Lions: If you insist upon watching all four quarters of their game against the Titans on Thursday, how much do you hate talking to your in-laws?”  My answer is that I don’t hate my in-laws, but they’re not even doing anything until after the game is over anyway! ;-)
  • The Minnesota Twins are sporting some throwback jerseys this coming season, but only on Saturdays at the Met-ro-d(r)ome.  Glen Perkins said it’s a nice break from the pinstripes.  He must not like ogling looking at Joe Mauer:
Mmmm...pinstripes AND eyeblack!

Mmmm...pinstripes AND eyeblack!

Now I have to attend a meeting.  I’m going there with thoughts of Hottie Joe Mauer to keep me entertained.  Here’s another picture of him for you – the Not-So-Random Hot Guy Pic:
