First thing:  I have a little bit of a problem with all this morality business when it comes to Michael Vick.  Do NOT misunderstand me:  I love dogs, and what the guy did was despicable.  However, he’s served his time, is pretty much broke, and is, in all honesty, a pretty good athlete.  On the other hand is Donté Stallworth:  the dude ran over a guy after having a few too many and killed him.  He killed another human being.  He spent a whopping 24 days in jail, gets some house arrest/probation time, and has been suspended without pay for one season.  When he comes back next year, I hope that there’s some major outrage on this one too.  Otherwise, what the hell is wrong with us and our priorities?

Additionally, I’m not a big fan of Roger Goodell, but this quote is money:

“As you recognized both at and following the hearing, guilt or innocence as a matter of criminal law is not the same as a violation of NFL policies,” Goodell wrote.

Emphasis mine.

Second thing:  I really dislike political commentators, and moreover, I hate politics.  Too bad that damn near everything has some political influence/factors.  I am so sick of hearing all of the garbage over every bat of an eyelash from the President – from both sides!  Can someone just tell me the facts, please?  And I mean facts, not some skewed perversion of them.

Okay, okay.  On with the good stuff:

...soap poisoning!

"...soap poisoning!"

Actually, I think it was food poisoning of a mild variety, but it was unpleasant to say the least.  Now I have a pile of work to do and no desire to get to it.  If I must, I must, so I’ll make this brief:

The NFL draft is this coming weekend, and I’m not really into it.  I guess it’s a good thing I won’t be tempted to watch for hours on end since it is airing all weekend on the NFL Network.  Yes, I love football, and I like all of my particular favorites, but who they choose in drafts matters very little to me until they make some impact for the team.  So, uh, we’ll see all about this come September.

Other fun football news, sorta, my “BFF” is mad at me for going to see the Chiefs-Cowboys game as part of my anniversary trip with the DH.  She luuurves Tony Romo, and I’m going to do my very best to get a picture taken with him, just so I can rub it in.  So mean! :D

The Indianapolis Indians are sitting decidedly un-pretty at 3-7.  The most recently scheduled game at Louisville was postponed due to the massive amounts of rain falling in the Ohio River Valley over the past few days.  Perhaps it was a mercy ruling from a higher power.  I hate it when we suck.  I do have to tell you that Scott McCauley, the radio announcer for the Indians, totally nailed it on his assessment of Indians’ hitting in this blog post.  Perhaps, Scott, you can explain why Pearce is sucking so bad right now?  Is it perhaps his attitude?  Maybe I’m just being mean again…

One final thing, and it’s a good one:  I must have been a bit psychic (no, not psycho) when I drooled over firefighters last week.  The FDIC (Fire Department Instructors Conference) is back in Indy.  That means about 30K firefighters are in town.  Too bad it’s fucking raining so they won’t be out like they were last year, but the weather is supposed to both clear up and warm up for the end of the week.  That could mean great ogling opportunities…and your Hot Guy Pics!

Yep, that’s what I’m doing.  Well, sorta.  I’m working on it, and I need to get it in gear so I can figure out my top five schools and sign up for the LSAT.  I’m thinking a December test date is in order…I don’t want to put it off too long.  They’ll probably change the test again and I just dropped some decent coin to buy a study guide for THIS year’s test.

The NFL announced the 2009 football schedule last night.  I’m already scouting it to see what game(s) the DH and I will try to attend this year to further The Quest.  Hey, some people go to all the baseball stadiums, we’re going to the football fields.  We’re taking a long vacation at the beginning of September, so that kind of kills the early games this year.  Starting in November, though, the possibilities are there for a good long weekend trip.  I’m thinking maybe Hotlanta, Charlotte, or Seattle.  We’ll have to see where we can get good tickets – both plane and game – on the cheap.

Totally cool thing:  I own two pairs of Skullcandy earbuds – an Ink’d pair and a pair of Smokin’ Buds.  I LOVE THEM.  You may have read earlier that I somehow jacked mine up and got a new pair after sending the defective ones in.  No questions asked.  Anyway, I see this article/video/blog on MSN today about SC.  It’s a pretty cool concept they have going.  It’s odd to me, however, that they didn’t discuss that one aspect that totally sold me on the brand – the return policy.  Yeah, the buds sound amazing (even the cheaper Ink’d ones – wearing them now), but, when a company has a rocking return policy, it’s like whipped cream and cherries on the sundae.  I guess I’m more of a mainstream user – since I don’t fall into the skater/snowboarder group – but give me a company with a cool design, a great product, and sweet customer service, and I’m going to be loyal to it.  There’s another set of buds I’d love to have, but I can’t justify dropping the dosh for a third set…hey, Skullcandy – send me some and I’ll keep recommending your products to my “mainstream” pals! ;)

They finally came today and rearranged the Cube’o'Doom.  It’s not exactly as I need it yet, but I’ll have to jack around with the computer and such to get it all comfy-like.  Seriously, I spend way more time here than I do on my own couch, so it better work for me.  At least within reason.  I don’t think they’d let me throw out all the desk furniture and put soft and cushy stuff in here.  Everyone would be hanging out in the Cube’o'Doom then.

It was a rough weekend.  I was in a lot of pain on Saturday so I went to an immediate care center.  I do not know how these “doctors” get jobs.  I’m not kidding.  This guy had me thinking that I had lung cancer when it’s just a major muscle strain.  Do not come to me and say “there’s something abnormal on your x-rays” when it’s a common affliction that EVERYONE IN THE STATE OF INDIANA HAS!!  Asshole.

Sports are going along pretty well.

  • Butler won the Horizon League, so we’re going to dance a little.  I don’t want to get my hopes up, but these boys can play.  I just hope they aren’t intimidated by the likes of the boys of the Big East or the ACC.
  • Sean “Sloppy Seconds” Avery has relocated to the Rangers.   I guess they need some help and they’re willing to take on his mouth for the on-ice presence.
  • Hottie Tom Brady married Gisele.  Well, I am pretty sure he wasn’t going to marry me, so I guess he didn’t do too badly for himself.  I *am* interested in seeing those wedding photos though…
  • Kurt Warner isn’t being quite the role model for good Christian men everywhere, what with his shopping himself around and looking for the biggest dollar.  Yes, I know he “led” a team to the Super Bowl.  Whatevs.  I think he’s not nearly as talented as the sportswriters who are so enamored with him (Mike Silver) do, and, like Over-Pay’d-ton Manning, his receivers made him what he is right now.  How’s he going to do with no Fitz to haul in those crazy ugly passes?
  • Speaking of the Colts, I heard that they kept Jeff Saturday.  Haven’t heard anything else yet.
  • TJ Houshmandzadeh (Gawd, I love that name) signed with the Seahawks and Albert Haynesworth signed with the Redskins.  Big deals, those two.
  • In sad news, they’re still look for and losing hope for the three remaining men off the shore of Florida.  The remaining men are Oakland Raiders linebacker Marquis Cooper,  free-agent defensive lineman Corey Smith, and former South Florida player William Bleakley.  Hope for the best and good thoughts out to those families.

Here’s something good to think about:

Football’s over, what with the Steelers eking one out over the Cardinals last night.  There are plenty of places you can go to get your fill (and then some) of the conspiracies, the “bad” calls, the whatever.  Nope, Kurt Warner wasn’t in the process of throwing the ball forward, he had his arm cocked back, waiting for one of his superhuman receivers to get open.  You gotta give credit for the coverage played by the Steelers’ secondary for that last Cardinals drive.  They sure as hell didn’t want to let Fitz run that pretty little slant into the middle of wide-open coverage for another TD.  (Side note – wasn’t it awesome to watch Fitz check out the distance between him and his pursuer(s) on the JumboTron as he ran that in?)

Here’s the gist – the Steelers won a hard-fought game.  It was a great match-up, and anyone who denies the Cardinals their due is just being an ass.  It’s pretty simple.

So, now it’s time to talk about the draft – the Senior Bowl’s over and the combine will not come soon enough for some.  I am interested to see who the Lions pick…

The DH and I had an argument over this.  I said that Tim Tebow and Sam Bradford probably decided to stay in school in order to avoid being drafted by the Lions.  I think it’s a crappy way to be – it’s freakin’ football, and they’re still going to pay you a zillion dollars.  You could be the “savior” of that group.  With a new coach and some good free agent pickups, it could be a Dolphinesque year.  The DH disagreed – who wants to go there?  No one.  He likened it to being offered a lot of money to go and work in Cleveland.  He says he wouldn’t do it – he’d never live in Ohio – but I actually doubt that.  For enough money, people will do lots of things.

Anyway, now that football’s over, it’s time for hockey and college basketball.  I’ll try and keep up on some good stuff for my few readers…and I’ll figure out a way to keep the hot athletes on the page during this season (it’s hard this time of year).  For now, let’s end it on a Good, Bad, Ugly, and Funny:

Good:  It was a good game last night.  The sun is out yet again over the skyline of Indy.  There’s a really hot guy at the gym, and I got to see him in shorts for the first time yesterday…rawr!

Bad:  Opening Day in baseball isn’t for a while and I can’t afford to hop a plane to Florida for any spring training games (although I’d LOVE TO).  It’s still effing cold.

Ugly:  In a “who gives a fuck” moment, a British tab has printed some photos of Michael Phelps taking hits off a water bong.  He’s owned up to it, and apologized.  This is similar to Matt Leinart’s beer bong/hot tub photos – who cares?  I mean, really??

Funny:  Kurt Warner trying to tackle James Harrison on the big man’s 100-yd pick6.  Nice, Kurt.  Way to (not) sacrifice the body.

Hot Guy Pic:  In honor, of course, I present Coach Hottie – I mean, Mike Tomlin:

Having the Colts suck it up totally in the last few minutes of the 4th quarter of the game on Saturday was awesome.  Even better was that it was Over-Pey’d-ton Manning that hesitated on a quick pass and got sacked that did it.  All he had to do was connect.  And he failed.  Miserably.  MVP, my ass.

There is one bad thing to come of the Colts’ loss.  Here at home in the Circle City, the “fans” are now calling for Tony Dungy to retire.  They want him gone, because, somehow, the inadequacies that the Colts showed on Saturday are all his fault.  Nevermind that he coached them to a pretty good season this year, through injuries and with the bunch of whiny brats that they can be.  Nevermind that he’s one of the winningest coaches in the current NFL configuration.  Nevermind that he’s actually a class act, gives a reasonable and steady press conference, and is a damn good guy overall.  I swear, Colts fans are among the worst in the fairweather department.  They’re also bad at being blind to the obvious – PEYTON ISN’T AS GOOD AS YOU’D LIKE TO THINK HE IS.  CAN YOU SAY CHOKE???

Icing on my proverbial football cake was the ViQueen’s demise to the Eggles.  They should have stuck with Frerotte…and who woulda thunk you’d ever hear that??

Short one today, so beyond the above, I have your Good, Bad, Ugly, and Funny:

Good:  My boss is back and she confirmed that I am not stupid, her boss is an ass at times, and that I’m top of the list to get a window cube! :D

Bad:  I actually have quite a bit of work to do this week, and it’s my short week!

Ugly:  Eric Mangina to coach the Browns?  Well, stupid is as stupid does, sir.

Funny:  Two jokes for you today:

  1. What do a televangelist and the Indianapolis Colts have in common?  They can both make 50,000 people stand up and yell “Jesus Christ!”
  2. What do Indianapolis Colts call the NFL postseason?  Basketball season.

Bright and early this morning, there’s the listing on MSN Sports for the athletes chosen to go to the Pro Bowl.  Right away, I’m thinking that this could be the making of a great post.  Starting with the NFC, I’ll be listing the starter and then letting you know if there’s a better pick out of the reserves in the way of hotness.

’cause this football season is done.  Okay, so it’s not OVER, but it’s done.  The Packers are done, what with their miserable showing against the Shaguars, and I’m pretty sure that the Saints were done at least two weeks ago.  Even the Cardinals, who last week won the NFC Worst, got trampled by the ViQueens.  Hell, Hottie Matt Leinart got to play.  Sigh.

All that’s left is ogling the hot players, rooting AGAINST teams, and…uh, ogling hot players. :)   I do have to say that I *love* the sarcasm over at Cheesehead TV.  What else can we do?

That rooting against teams came in handy yesterday – I rooted against the Giants, which turned out nicely for me, and against the Colts, which didn’t.  I still say that if the Colts are having that much trouble against a team such as Detroit, they’re not going to get far in the post-season.  Well, unless there’s a giant fluke, and Peyton gets his wish granted from the God of All Things Unholy.  It could happen (see Super Bowl XLI).

I have to give an ovation to Matt Cassell.  Six(!) days after losing his father, he throws four TD passes in the Pats’ rout of the Raiders.  I’d be a total freaking mess for at least a month if I’d lost my dad – he’s out there being chased around by linebackers six days later.  Amazing.

I watched the majority of the Butler basketball game vs Oh How I Hate Ohio State.  I am constantly impressed with how those boys (and yes, they are boys – I am so old) can play ball and come from behind like they did.  It was almost an upset victory…almost.  The team is pretty much freshmen and sophomores, and they’re pretty decent now, just wait until next year.

In hockey “news”, the Dallas Stars say that they’re g’done with Sean Avery, when he comes off of NHL suspension.  All this for saying that other players must really like his “sloppy seconds”.  If he hadn’t of used that particular term, this would have been a non-issue.  If he had said “other guys must really like the girls I used to date”, this would not be news.  But, it’s Avery, and he’s gotta make a splash.  Now the ice is cracking under him – at least as far as the very conservative Stars are concerned.  Now the question is where he’ll land after his suspension from the League is up…I understand that the Columbus Blue-Jackets could use a big-draw name…

Speaking of hockey – I really want to go to the Winter Classic.  And I really want one of these sweet Detroit shirts:

And now that I’m done bitching about sports, I should go do work.  It’s time for…………………..
