I sort of got myself into a little trouble yesterday in a meeting. In a rare moment of complete idiocy, I told the chief (not my boss, but her boss) to move on with a topic. Yeah, certainly not the smartest thing I’ve ever done. It was more borne out of utter frustration than anything: the dude goes over how we’re all behind in our work in nine different ways, all the time clogging up my schedule so I can’t go get my work done. I apologized for the disruption afterward, and I got a scolding, but I think things are okay now. They let me come into work and log into the computer system, so I don’t guess I’m being escorted out.
Onto more of a happy place, where my ChiSox defeated the Halos last night with a walk-off single by Scotty Po-po. Can we please get rid of Contreras? Pretty please? Erratic is a nice way to describe the guy, really. Fortunately for him and the Sox, Carrasco was in decent form, and the bats were able to come out for run support. Sheesh. Tonight Gavin Floyd starts the show…here’s hoping for another win at the Cell.
I wonder how difficult it is for a baseball player – or any athlete, for that matter – to sit out the vast majority of a game only to be called on once (to pinch hit) to perform? I know that most would say that they’re always ready, always prepared, but I know that time away from actual play can make a guy rusty. So what’s a (mega-hot) guy to do when all he’s used for is a pinch-hitter? Yeah, the truth apparently is that he usually sucks it up royally, grounding out in the 7th every freaking time, and then popping out when he actually gets to be a position player for one random game. Damn it, Matt.
Gotta wrap this up. After my outburst yesterday, I’m trying to appear as studious as possible. Hot Guy Pic? Yes!

This cutie has been helping the Durham Bulls in taking the Tribe to task. If he didn't look so good, I'd be annoyed. (AP photo via MLB.com)

No, I’m not going through either of these situations. We should all thank our respective divine beings (and probably each other’s as well) for that. I’m already insane – either or both of the above would just make it apocalyptic.
The title is in reference to what’s going on at work lately. There’s been a lull in the amount of work for everyone, so not a lot in the way of actual work is being discussed. Instead, the personal lives come into work.
Of course, one can’t blame the one guy in my department for being concerned and happy that his wife will be induced to have their fourth (!) child tomorrow morning. We’re all very happy for them. It’s amazing to me that they can handle that. There’s no negativity toward the lady in a neighboring department that is overdue with her first child – she hasn’t been into work the past two days because she isn’t able to drive any longer. We all wish her the best. Certainly, there was plenty of attention available for the lady in yet another group who brought her nine-month old upstairs from the nursery to see everyone. My boss brought her eldest (age 6, I think) in today so they can go directly to her dentist appointment in a bit. Everyone has been talking about Little League and family vacations and birthday pool parties.
I am so glad I don’t have to deal with this. It’s not that I don’t like kids…they’re fine as long as I can give them back…but I get enough of everyone else’s (over)sharing that I have absorbed the experiences through diffusion, and consider myself all set with that.
The other topic of conversation around the office is divorce. One lady in our department – we’ll call her BABTS (Becoming Annoying by the Second) – is just beginning on her trek to the Big D. Sure, we hear about her struggles with the future ex-husband, but it’s getting to a point of insanity. She’s prowling incessantly to find people to go out with, especially men, and she’s pushing people into “helping” her. I offered to host a make-up party to get her all prepped to go out and meet new people. This I did of my own accord – it helps her and it will help my friend who sells Mary Kay – but she’s now volunteering some of the guys in the office to help her with home improvements on a place she doesn’t even have yet. She’s pressured another guy in the office into taking her out on his motorcycle and was pushing him today about going whitewater rafting with her and a group this fall. I’ve never been through this situation (and certainly hope that it doesn’t happen), but I’m getting a little worried about her. She’s going crazy. When she gets there, it won’t be pretty.
I’m hoping for a time coming soon that we have other things to talk about. Babies and divorce are getting stale topics quickly.

Ah, so much has happened since I have last posted. Mostly, I’ve either been busy or lazy, so the writing thing hasn’t happened. So, now, it’s catch-up time. I’m always trying to do this in fun and somewhat interesting ways, so here’s a new one. In line with the Jay-Z and Ja Rule song “Can I get a…”, I’m going to line out some random thoughts. Hold on to your lunchbox…

I often wonder if everyone has the same sort of thoughts that I have. It’s especially notable on days like today when I feel pretty sharp and on my game. I see someone (the RFAC, for example) and my brain whirls with the power of a tornado, spitting out crazy-mean and really entertaining thoughts and one-liners. Fortunately, my filter works. I can keep most, if not all, of those thoughts to myself, albeit the evil grinning that goes on during the tongue-biting process.
The RFAC is quite the target of my sarcastic wrath, even if it is unspoken. I wrote briefly about her really ridiculous requirements of her boyfriend and the engagement ring. Well, apparently, the guy’s an idiot and he actually proposed. [I met him once, and oddly enough, he seemed relatively normal and sane. I guess that neither are the truth.]
By the grace of a divine being or maybe I’d saved up some good karma, I wasn’t in the office on Monday when she came around flashing her (freaking ugly) ring to everyone. Everyone. I understand that she went around, to individual cubes, telling the whole story over and over and over. A coworker of mine is in the beginning stages of an ugly divorce, and I understand that she handled it the best of everyone – congratulated the RFAC and then told her that she needed to get back to work. Everyone else was held a hostage to the story of the proposal.
Don’t get me wrong: it’s a monumental occasion, and you should certainly tell people. But don’t go around soliciting congratulations from everyone. Maybe it’s just me. Whatever.
A quick sports blurb here: The ChiSox almost blew it in the 8th yesterday against the Dodgers but managed to come out with the win. They are currently behind in today’s day game. Brett Favre will be a Viking, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Hopefully the Tiggers sweep the Cubbies. I saw a brief thing about the USA soccer team defeating No.1-ranked Spain for the Confederations Cup…and I’ve decided that I should watch soccer more often, as they have some good-looking guys running around there:

That, my friends, is what I have to work on today. Not that this is much of a change from every other day, but sometimes I do have important projects. Like last week, for example. However, I completed all of those and now I am stuck with the mindless stuff.
Anyway, that gives me more time and incentive to do stuff like blog and research law schools. You know, goof off.
Interesting tidbit before I get to your regular dose of sports and me drooling over hot athletes: I found the Overrated List blog sort of by accident. I thought it was pretty cool that you could submit your own, so I did. Mine went up yesterday. Good site, Andrew.
Back to your anticipated programming: sports!
- I am trying to keep my excitement under wraps for Game 6 tonight between the Wings and Pens. It’s back at Mellon (the Igloo), and the Wings are ahead in the series 3-2 after an awesome Game 5 at the Joe. The DH doesn’t want to watch the game for fear that he’ll jinx it. I’d like to watch it so I can yell at the TV a lot. Part of me wants the Wings to win it just to get it done, but the other part wants it to come back to the D for Game 7 madness…Go Wings!
- I am also trying to stay positive for Matt Kata – the word on the web is that Kaz Matsui will be back with the Astros against the Cubs tonight. The Astros bought Matt’s contract from Round Rock when Matsui went on the DL…I’m hoping only good things for him now that Kaz is back.
- Once again, the former Indy Indian I like to call “Pornstache”, Josh Wilson, was called on to pitch in a Major league game. He didn’t fare as well for the Padres as he did for the Diamondbacks, but…at least he’s playing in the bigs, right?
I should get back to the mindless drivel since I’m supposed to have it done today. Before I go, I leave you with this Hot Guy:

If he were pitching in Houston today, I'd be able to watch for double-hottie pleasure. Instead, he's rehabbing with the AAA Iowa Cubs. Poor fragile thing. (Photo: Getty Images via SI.com)

I shouldn’t feel this way. It’s a bright sunny day outside and it’s Thursday. It’s Thursday before a long weekend where I don’t really have any major plans. I should feel great. Instead, I feel moody and apathetic. Okay, they both happen all the time, but it’s worse today. Why? I had a shitty afternoon at work yesterday.
I try very hard to do my job to the absolute best that I can do. When I’m spouting the nearly-legalese and/or putting it down on paper, I try and make it right. It has my name on it after all. I refuse to be stupid on purpose. When that approach is thwarted, it makes me cranky. I try to argue my point – that’s not the right way to do it, I say – but it makes little difference. So, today, I have the “why do I even fucking bother?” attitude. Hopefully I can pick it up today and get back to feeling like I should (my horoscope actually said I should be open to counseling. I don’t think it’s THAT bad.).
Anyway, about those sports I love:
- The White Sox have won two in a row over Super Hottie Joe Mauer and the Twinkies. That’s quite nice. Also nice: The Q looks to be back in the lineup on Friday.
- Pittsburgh Steeler James Harrison has ruffled some feathers with his comments, and then switchback comments, to the annual invitation of the Super Bowl winners to the White House. So, a pro athlete made some dumb comment, and then made some other dumb comments to try and cover up the original dumb comment. Move along; nothing new to see here, folks.
- I find it odd that the NHL Playoffs are going on, but neither MSN nor Yahoo! Sports have anything about hockey on the fronts of those sections. The Hurricanes of Carolina need to step it up in Game 2 tonight to stay relevant in the series against PGH. It can be done.
- It makes me laugh to think of Danica going to NASCAR…
I should go back to that work thing I’m supposed to be doing. Maybe a nice, hot picture to make that easier?

Dreamboat coughs politely to cover up his laughter when a reporter asks him if he's seen Mark Sanchez's GQ photo spread. (Not really, but you know. Photo: NY Daily News)
Cupcakes for breakfast April 27, 2009

Homemade, but out of a box, cupcakes for breakfast. I mixed these little dollops of strawberry goodness with cream cheese frosting up late last night to share with the group. Originally, it was to celebrate my boss hitting her 50-mile mark in her quest to run 100 miles in one attempt. Well, with the heat (an amazing 88-degree day in late April) and some other snafu-age, it didn’t happen. I didn’t know about it until this morning, after I had already baked. Oh well. So, now the office is having cupcakes for breakfast.
I’m not a runner. I don’t enjoy it like some do. It pounds the crap out of my joints and gives me an immense headache when I try. Maybe I don’t have the proper form or whatever, but I guess I don’t care to learn any different. We’ve been working out on our program since early November, and I haven’t had to run once. I like the elliptical, and we have these nifty CrossRamp machines, but I avoid the treadmills. We’re coming up on six months and the trainers like what they see out of me. It’s harder for me to see the results, but I do feel better overall. I just need to keep pushing myself so I can be feeling good about myself when we’re on the beach this Labor Day.
Let’s see: Sports – the NFL draft happened. Woo! The DH and I made fun of it while we were at the gym. People really go and sit to watch this? Hmm. There was a big wreck at Talledega (well, duh. I think there’s a big wreck there every time.), and Jacoby Ellsbury stole home in the Red Sox’s sweep of the Yanks. Kewl.
Better – on Saturday that there’s hope that Joe Mauer may return to the Twins earlier than Friday’s anticipated return. Not that I want any skill back with the Twins, I don’t like to see such hotness wasting away in the minors (where there aren’t a lot of photos taken).
Worse – the ChiSox lost to Toronto. They still have a team? Oh, yeah, they have Roy Halladay.
Meh. I have a lot of work to do today. But first, I might go snag one of those cupcakes…

It is so freaking nice outside. I went out with my sammitch and enjoyed the beautiful weather for lunch along the Canal. It was hard to drag myself back in here. Only 1:45 left to go in this day…
Good: The Indians won again last night over the Columbus Clippers. The Ladies… have some new arrivals and one hates the Manning Family. She may be my new best friend. I can handle her retro Packer hate for that one. The weekend is supposed to be beautiful and I get to try out my new upside-down tomato planter. Hottie Joe Mauer should be coming back to the Twins soon.
Bad: I have to at least look at stuff for the Twins to find out about Joe Mauer’s status. I have to spend the majority of Saturday inside. I need to weed the flowerbeds already. The ChiSox lost yesterday to the Orioles – that’s no way to end a road trip! 1:38 left to work today.
Ugly: I really wish Nick Swisher was hitting like this for the White Sox last year. My fucking credit card company and their “well, it just costs us more to issue credit” excuse for jacking up my rate.
Funny: I told my uber-dramatic friend that I got a hot date to the Indians’ game on 4/30, and she thought I was stepping out on the DH. I had to explain that I was taking another friend since the DH will be MIA for work.
Hot Guy Pic: Did you know this one was coming?

Sigh. So delish. (Photo: Getty via www.minnesotatwins.com)
1:21 left to work.

I think we have the official Printer’O'Doom in our department’s area. Since it’s located just outside the Cube’O'Doom, it should be expected, I suppose, but this thing gets louder and clunkier every day. It’s left over from the previous group that resided in these cubes, and I think they left it on purpose. Oddly enough, it works okay, but it is SO LOUD I can hear it plainly over my headphones. I think we may have to shoot it.
Ah, let’s see…it is beautiful outside, and this may be the drawback to sitting by the windows. I want to be out there instead of in here, and so does everyone else. I can’t speak for everyone, but very little has gotten done in the Cube’O'Doom today because people keep trekking over to gaze longingly outside. There is seriously not a cloud in sight.
The Indianapolis Indians actually have won two in a row now, holding leads built over Toledo in some high-scoring games. They move on to Columbus for a 4-game stint before coming back home. Perhaps a groove has been located? I’ll not hold my breath.
In related news, the Indians advertise in some of the mailings that go to every home in the area – this magazine happens to have coupons and ads for local places. I go through these because I am a coupon queen, and, after last night, I’m glad that I do. The Indians’ ad in this one consisted of an action shot of none other than Super Hottie Matt Kata. I know, he doesn’t play for us anymore, but most people wouldn’t know that. In fact, most people wouldn’t be able to tell you who it is other than “an Indians player”. Fortunately, the #6 is shown on his jersey, and, because I ogled him all last season, I know the man when I see him.

It's not quite the photo from the ad, but it's still him, and he's still hot. (Photo: Bill Gentry via www.indyindians.com)

I have a lot of work to get done today, so I’m giving you a quickie (the DH is jealous):
Good: I have Friday off. Actually, I have the next three Fridays off. Sometimes, I freakin’ love my job. The pay is bad, but the perks are great.
Bad: The doctors have found a solitary pulmonary nodule (SPN) in my right lung. I have to use my day off (Friday) to have a chest CT done to help diagnose the SPN as malignant or benign.
Ugly: I roll my eyes every time I see the RFAC (Really Fucking Annoying Chick) now. I just can’t help myself. She’s turned into a power-hungry egomaniac lately, and it just kills me that she thinks so highly of herself. She’s got a cohort: one that may be more power-hungry, but they feed off of each other. It’s grand.
Funny: Over at the Ladies…, get a good look at today’s HDH.
